I just want to announce that I've come in third in a Fan Ficton contest, it was put on by the Author so everything was on the legal side. It was that Goblin one that I talked about Submitting a few months ago. I did it just for fun and it worked out great.
(BTW, I hope this isn't against the Other People's Worlds policy.)
We don't want to critique material written in someone else's copyrighted world because we don't want to encourage copyright infringement. And because we want to encourage people to write about their own characters and settings, so they can possibly be published someday.
I've written and sold a story set in someone else's creation (MAGIC: THE GATHERING, in case ya'll were wondering) but that was, like your contest, encouraged by the creator, and published by the publisher.
We can talk about such things, we just don't critique them.

Congratulations! I liked it, but cannot ever feel like I can comment fairly on fan fiction, and especially when I'm not very well versed in the subject.
