It does feel like overkill to post here given that the results have been posted in the "Open discussions about writing", but I've been dying to post something in this section for a couple of years now. Forgive my indulgence in announcing that I received 2nd place in Q2 of WOTF 2011.

Savor it, Nick! The longer you've waited, the sweeter the success!
When I won WOTF I couldn't wait to shout it from the rooftops. I e-mailed everyone who might have cared, and many who probably didn't, not to mention hitting all the usual haunts on the internet. It was fantastically good fun. I think receiving news of the win, and getting my first Analog sale 60 days later, will always rate as two of the most exciting events in my life. I don't think anything else will come quite that close; unless it's some kind of blockbuster novel deal or a movie contract or something.

What Brad said. Savor it! Your first professional sale only happens once. And it is way overdue to see your name on this thread.

Thanks guys. Skadder, have you had a chance to go to the workshop yet (I thought I'd read that you hadn't had the chance to go)?

Thanks Skadder. I think I might have critiqued what ended up being your IGMS story, just before you won WOTF story ...I think I really only had minor tweaks.
I hope you find the opportunity to attend the workshop soon. Everything I've heard about it makes it sound like an absolute blast.
I always initially read "genre-defying" as "gender-defying" which lends a completely different slant to the review.
And I'm used to misspelling my name, so I thought changing my surname to "Chan" would make it easy. Apparently not, though "Chain" does sound kinda bad-arse.
One of my writer's group has suggested that I simply take up the pen-name of Nick T. Chain and then have a fan newsletter called "Chain- mail."

Interesting supporting quote for the cover of your novel: "Nick Tchan...defies categorization."
