Do people feel that magazines for writers about writing are useful? I've looked at one once, but never subscribed or even purchased a single issue. I'm beginning to wonder if I'm missing something. Does anyone here use these as resources? How about other things like "Writers' Market" and other trade publications? Posts: 303 | Registered: Feb 1999

I'm still working on a magazine my father picked up for me for fiction writers. I have yet to find anything that would work for me--but I'm less than halfway through.

If you want writing advice, there is plenty of places on line that can help. There are also several places on-line that give recent lists of buying markets for sci-fi, fantasy, or mainstream. Given that, I don't think those writing journals are very necessary, or helpful.
I have notice that if you pick up an "advice" book by a published author, (like one whom you've read ie. Card, Le Guin...) you can gleam many useful tips from them, but anything published by the "literary" crowd and "Critics" has proven to be a waste of time, for me.
