I found a pretty funny comic strip called 8-Bit Theater. Some of the humor isn't very appropriate...but it's all very funny.

At least, I thought so.

P.S. The site FAQ specifically mentions that you need not have played any of the Final Fantasy games to enjoy the strip. I've seen several of the games played, but haven't played any of them myself, so I would regard this information as being confirmed.

Really? That's so strange. Stupid AOL!

Try this email: hdicompany@aol.com. I usually use that for business...it shouldn't have any blocks on it. Meanwhile, I'll try and figure out what's up with my regular account.

AOL use a number of e-mail blacklists for all e-mail sent to their domains. If survivor's ISP has been listed on one of those, he won't be able to send e-mail to AOL at all. I'd suggest one of you signs up for a webmail account somewhere, they tend to be less strict.

I sent you an e-mail a bit back as well and it bounced back at me.

Thanks for the info on AOL. Just for my information, what domains were you sending from, Shawn and Survivor? Hotmail, perhaps? I just want to see if there is something I can adjust on my end...goodness knows what else I haven't gotten.

That was supposed to be just a side note since KDW closed the other thread! This thread is about Black Mage (and his assorted obsticles).

I'll try the other emails, Hildy, but I just wanted to communicate the difficulty the only way I can. I receive your messages just fine on my (yes, it is hotmail) account. I didn't mean to ask you to publicly divulge any information that would be best kept private (I have the addresses, and am sending on the first one--you can edit them out if you want to keep them hidden).

Back to our original topic:

Hey Rahl, with which character did you most identify yourself?

Would it be cliche to say the Black Mage?

There's no 'the' in that phrase, unless you're talking about a character with which I am not familiar.

Oohhh... so THAT'S what pedantic means. I was looking for a good example.

No, that was pique, not pedantry. Pedantry would be an excursion into the propriety of using the term 'cliche' in reference to a statment of preferance for a character that exists outside of the current mainstream

I love forums filled with word-nazis. They make me feel warm and giggly.

Of course, I have to disagree with you. My usage of cliche was perfectly acceptable. I was using the meaning that is a synonym of trite or obvious.

I think that we can all agree that picking the (arguably) main character in a two-main-character comic is a bit obvious.

I think Survivor was criticizing your usage of the word "the." You don't see that everyday. You should be proud, Rahl.

The term "word nazis" does not require a hyphen.

Not to get back to the point or anything, but I identified with the Giant. Am I sad?

No wait, I'm sorry, I meant Giant. Not the Giant.

Well, since more than one giant appears in the strip, I suppose that referring to any of them as the giant (note lack of capitalization) is acceptable.

Regarding the use of an article in front of "Black Mage," there is precedent in the comic for doing so. "HE'S A BLACK MAGE, A MASTER OF THE DARK ART OF DESTRUCTION..."

Of course, the person speaking that line is Fighter, who is hardly an authoritative source on anything (except swords, possibly.)

I like the Hawaiian reference in episode 7, although the author fails to truly weave it into the action. So sad.
