I want to put a quote from a particular book before the start of each of my chapters. It would be an obvious quote, with the name of the book underneath. Does anyone know the protocol for this? Do I need permission from the publisher if I were to do this? Or do I just list the book that I'm getting the quotes from at the end in a reference section?

-Thanks,
-E

basically, all you need to do is give the person that your quoting the credit

ex:
"Insanity: doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results."
-Albert Einstein

"All the stories are fictions. What matters is which fiction you believe."
-Orson Scott Card, "Children of the Mind"

I think OSC wrote something about this topic in the Writing Class section somewhere... but I'm not gonna bother looking for it, I can never find anything when I'm looking for it...
