Is there a preferred format for a BIO? I can't believe it would need to be in the same format as the story would. Yet, I cringe at just dashing off a couple of lines with no headers, etc and sending it off attached as an RTF.

I've never thought about it. I've just always done the same format as a manuscript because I figured that was what they were used to seeing. That, and I haven't bothered to change the default settings on my word processor away from manuscript format.

According to Formatting & Submitting Your Manuscript by Neff, Neff & Prues, the bio would have the same format as the story. "Have a slug line in the top left corner with your last name, then backslash, then the novel's title in all caps, then backslash again, then 'Author Biography,'" and a page number in the right corner. Double spacing, present tense, of course, and written in third person. Should be about 200-250 words.
