Here's a site with a simple character generator. Might come in handy when you need a minor character, or need to get the juices flowing:

Fun. Who's up to the task of writing a story with this cast of characters?

The dexterous, apathetic mutant.
The mystical terraformer who is seeking to return to his/her homeworld.
The unwise cyborg in love with an artificial life form.
The alienated mutant needing a friend.
The space hitchiker needing a friend.

Oh, that is fun. How about these guys?

The hateful bounty hunter hiding a dark secret.
The unhealthy, eccentric stellar cartographer.
The noisy, extraverted pretender with repressed memories.
The graceful, stingy, amiable student in love with someone of another species.

I will say, as funny as these are, I'm pleased that they come with a built-in internal conflict.
