Congratulate me, I've been rejected! And a form letter, no less! Woohoo! One step closer to publication...

Here it is:

Dear Writer,

Thank you for your submission. Unfortunately we will not be able to use this work for Vestal Review. We receive many well-written, compelling, stories, but can only take a very limited number due to constraints of space and style. We wish you the best of luck in placing your story elsewhere.

Vestal Review Editorial Team

I think I'll go celebrate.

Good for you! It means you've crossed the postage stamp width barrier. Keep at it. (I need many footsteps to follow in.)

My offer for congratulations is contingent on whether or not your piece is already on its way to the next editor on your list. If so, you get a woo-hoo! to go with it. If not, please return to this post when you've done so.

Congrats, jeduthun! Which story did you submit?

Don't stop now, you've gotten off to a good start. Keep submitting it! *G*

Yes, it was "Spinning", now "Elegy for an Old Volleyball". Next on the list is Flashquake: submissions open June 1. Suggestions on where to send after that would be most welcome.

Rejections are fun. I keep a spreadsheet so I don't get rejected twice from the same publication.

"Elegy for an Old Volleyball"

Wouldn't "Elegy for an Old Tetherball" be more appropriate?

Neat little story, too. I hope you do find a market for it.

And I hope it is the first of the flash challenge stories to get published!

Put it back out there!

Good for you. Being able to handle the crits and rejections is the first step. A lot of people never make it past that first rejection.

Good work! Getting a rejection is like a typical job search:

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, YES.

Congrats on getting rid of that first "no."

Battle scars, that's what they are.

Yay for rejections!
