I guess it varies, my brother has been able to post several times a week about his life ding deployment, obfuscated for OpSec reasons. Based on my experience with him, I'm always a little suspicious of people who announce themselves as military personnel on internet fora. But journalling is quite often a good idea.

Hey there,
I had a friend sent to the Iraq border for a year. He had to do something with customs. Said some soldiers tried to smuggle a camel back to the states! hehehe. I'd rather it stay boring for you than the alternative; perhaps you could think of some crazy schemes. Stay safe.

Good luck out there, I've got a buddy in Iraq right now, stay safe and stay bored. (Or deal with your boredom by writing.)

Rommel,

I've got a friend from work named John over there somewhere. If you see him, say hi. Just kidding, his real name isn't John.

My favorite deployment book was "Starship Toopers." It partially inspired me to go to OCS based on the line "If you're going to march in the band, it's better to carry the baton than the big drum." I'd send you a copy but I ran out of toilet paper in the Mohave, and my pages began to disappear until nothing was left.

Keep your spirits up and journal everything, even the mundane. It will be invaluable to you in years to come when your memories fade.

i know the feeeling. at FOB J-Bad the portibal sh!&&ers ran out of tp all the time. that is usuly when you sacirfise your under shirt. i have also used medical supplies from my first aid pack.
"Starship Troopers" good book been a while sence i read it. every time i do for some reason the song with the same name by the band Yes plays on the radio i think the SAPPER GOD is playing with me. so i havent tryed to read it sence we got here.

is he civilan or military? if he is military what is his unit on organ e there is 864th 124th and my unit the 70th ENG. also is he in "The Stain" or Iraq. also we go by last name in the military i hardly know my room mates first names.

funny story. dont eat 2 year expired akions bars. the wheet turns into a type of acid and you become sick and see things.
then you wake up at 2300 hearing outgoing and think it is incomming shells so you will run to the bunker 1/2 awake and in the nude and not realize it.until 28 of your buddies re sitting around you and all the lights come on you at once. that is a aquard feeling.

also if any one is trying to have me invite them on my space.. send me a messige first. i usuly deni all incomming friend requestd unless they mail me first. i had a probulm with that a few weeks ago and i curectied it. the person was someone i met a few years ago. funny HAHA..

until next time

Rommell,

You should DEFINITELY use the expired wheat incident in a story, it was hysterical.

P.S. I'm sorry you hallucinated and got scared. But seriously. It's good stuff.

yes i will deffently use it in a story. and in the 2nd plt movie i came up with but not the one wrtitng the screan play. there are going to be some famous people in it like Cheech and Chong as EOD and Clint Eastwood as my squad leader Chuck Noris as Sgt Rob M&M as PFC Fish%^* etc. it will be a comidy about us.
hase anyone seen a Cammel smoke a Cammel it is funny as heck. the other day we went to the washrack just out side the wire and the Hajji had 2 cammels we asked him if they would smoke cammel he said he did not know so we went to the cammels and i got out a cigrett and lit it it waas SPC HAMMER who tryed to give the cammel a cammel they did not want it so this Hajji guy came and grabded the cammel and held its mouth open so SPC HAMMER could put the cigrett in the mouth and the cammel looked as if he were smoking. we got it all on digital cammera. dose anyone know how it feels to be smokes whal smoking a HOOKRA i had the wonderfull experence of that too. got a pict.

we got shelled the other day for real and no i did not run to the bunker in the nude i was in full gear to include the arm plates which are more of a hender than a help. but gunners must wear them.

the worst place to learn to drive is on mission. i have never drove any kind of veical ever in my life longer than 15 min. my squad leader SSG Wo...... told me i will be driving A24 to bermel on a 4 day miss which lasted 6. and i had a trailer attched. my team leder SGT B was yelling at me the whole time to stay on the road. it was nerve racking. i went through 5 packs of cigerets in 3 days then i could hardly smoke more.. then when i was posting here we got shelled so i had to get the H$** out of the MWR and get to the bunker.

I emailed The Powers That Be (meaning the Hatrack Main Office) about it a week or so ago, and haven't heard back.

I suspect that there isn't one. A Pashtune or Darie publisher would have had to purchase publication rights, and that would only happen if there were a real market for the book. Maybe your friend can write a letter to someone in publishing there and ask them to look into it?
