An entertaining article and graph about elements used in US book design. Swords and glowy magic are trending down while "dark covers of meaninglessness" are holding steady.

Interesting charts--there are later ones than the one on the link, so check those out, too.

My question regards how many permutations of the most common title words: Death, Dragon, Magic, and Shadow we can come up with for possible new titles?

The Death of the Dragon Shadow Magic

Death Magic of the Shadow Dragon

Magic Dragon's Death Shadow

Dragon Death and Shadow Magic (or Magic Shadows)

Dragon Shadows and the Death of Magic

Death Shadows the Dragon of Magic

Some of these (or other permutations) might actually lead to real stories.

I've also noticed a change in covers. At least with many fantasy books. There seems to be a variety of styles. Perhaps using up the ones already in the pipeline that have the older styles and/or it depends on the publisher.
