Can someone explain that movie to me?

I know it's a parable-like story after the story of Job but i really didnt get the ending. was that God turning against him? or just...well what was that at the end? what was the meaning?

apparently this story was something the coens worked on for a very long time get everthing just right - it meant a lot to them...

i dunno...i just dont get it.

So I'm sitting in the theater watching A Serious Man, and thinking, "This is it? We live in a cold and unfeeling universe?" I mean, I already know this.

But I couldn't shake the movie, and the more I think about it, the more I like it. Especially the ending. But that's 'cause I'm sick like that.

It's very definitely NOT escapist fare.

Here's a good slate article about it. Put me down as one of those who thought the wife at the begining was a "positive foil".

"The rat represents obviousness." Ralph Wiggum, the Debarted.
Oh wait this isn't the movie quotes thread.

You see I thought the main guys was always doing right - even when things were going bad - but when everything went back to normal, he caved at the end and accepted a bribe. That's when God's fury came in that tornado.

But on the other hand, it could be that idea that there are rules of the universe that no one is aware of but reflect your moral behavior..

Or, it could be everything was just random , and anyone could put any spin on it they choose...

ah, the movie frustrates me so...
