I've watched half of it and I'm going to watch the rest in about half an hour. So far it's really great, the story makes more sense and the characters' stories seem much more developed, especially the Ents. I love Ents.

Yeah, I paid about 26 with shipping and all. Mine was $21.99 without shipping. It got more expensive after they started shipping it out.

Well, I just ordered one from Amazon. I decided it was probably the best because there's an additional $5 rebate on there too, so really I got it for $21 (free shipping)
I won't have time to watch it until Thanksgiving break anyways, and conveniently, I've got a pal who will have just had her wisdom teeth out, so she might need a good movie to watch then.

::Cries:: I waited an hour and a half with my room-mate to get a copy, and when we got home and opened it, it had two CD#4's and no #2 CD!

Is anyone else going to just wait for the EE Trilogy to buy them all? Of course, I have wonderful friends that probably already have it, as well as the point where I'll be seeing FotR-EE as well as TTT-EE in theatres once each, AND THEN in order at the Tuesday Trilogy showing! mwahahaha!!!!

The whole "ring must go to Isengard" makes a lot more sense with the extra scene, and actually puts it back into the spirit of the book. We know that Denethor liked Boromir better and didn't like Faramir as much, so the whole parental approval angst on top of the ring's power to begin with is much more logical.
Merry and Pippin got their Old Toby!
A lot of the fight scenes showed more individual hand to hand combat than the blur it was before.
Also liked the horse plotline. Aragorn's horse was named Brego in the book wasn't it?
And the whole Aragorn-Eowyn thing went much deeper as in the book. I loved the funeral scene where she sings. I found her a much more likable character now. You see the depth of her near-dispair.
A couple of things made more sense, like, how the horse found Aragon after his fall and why Faramir took Frodo with him. I really think the scene with Faramir and Boromir helped explain the reason why Faramir was initially tempted. It goes a long way to restore his moral standing that I thought was lost in the theatrical release.
I do have a complaint: did anyone else about crap themselves when they saw the box fall from Sam's coat at the very beginning? I though PJ was going to slip in the dirt and maybe lead that to the scouring of the Shire in RotK later. But then it was just salt!!! PJ is a tricky litle man. So anyways I enjoyed it. can't wait for the final instalment!

I haven't seen it yet, but I can't wait. I'll be watching it this weekend.
I Just wanted to express my opinion that Eowyn is the worst character in these movies. I cannot stand any scene between her and Aragorn.
Those of you in love with her can feel free to kill me for my heresy, but before you do, think about it. The rest are so great that it is easy for her to be the worst.
Ron thought the Old Toby thing was a little too marijuana-ish, with all the giggling and stuff, but I didn't see it until he mentioned it.
See, watching this with Ron is just a bunch of fun. I told him I didn't think there were any new Arwen scenes, and he said he figgured PJ would put another one in just to piss him off.
If the set Brego free, then why did he still have a bridle and rope and all on him when he found Aragorn?

I wondered about this too but it could just be a mistake. Like when Merry and Pippen are in the orc camp when the rohirrim attack. When the horse is about to stomp on Merry/Pippen's head (can't remember which one) his hands are free and out to each side, but the next scene shows his hands still bound. There are always little goofs like that in movies.

Apostle, I think they fleshed out Eowyn much more in the EE. They kept her true to the book which doesn't really have her being terribly likeable til the end anyway. I like her much better now, especially once you hear the actress sing!

Have you noticed this mistake - In the scene where Frodo and Sam are being held by Faramir and Sam urges Frodo to put the ring on, and he refuses. They are leaning against barrels. When Faramir comes in seconds later and they stand up, the room empty. There will be lots of continuity mistakes in a film this complex and this long, just love them and accept them. Loving the EE. AJ, I totally agree with the stuff you said.
Right from the very beginning I already knew I was going to love it. The elvish rope scene was always one i was hoping to see, and was disapointed to see it missing from the movie. granted it was an addition on the first one, so if you hadn't seen the EE of FOTR, you wouldn't understand the rope scene in this EE. But it was nice, and added some humor and a bit of longing for the shire. I noticed that with a lot of the added scenes. More humor and more sadness all in one shot. Sort of balancing the two out.
There was alot more Gollum from the very beginning, more Gollum/Smeagol, more fleshing out of his relationship to the ring and even Gollum and Frodo's relationship, connected by the ring. All of it great stuff.
Basically every problem i had with this movie in the theaters(mostly pacing) was completely cleared up here. Everything fit together better, everything made sense, characters were fleshed out more.
It was great to see more stuff with Gandalf and Gimli and Eowin and Farimir and even Boromir! Who you're just made to like even more, as if you didn't already from FOTR!
It helps somewhat clear up the part with the horse saving Aragorn that i never really liked. little things like the added couple seconds when they're defending the gate at helms deep and the king comes in to fight. in the original he pretty much gets cut back right away. here we see him jump in and save someone, fight for a bit, get hit himself, and then fight back the orc that hits him. Much more kingly.
Gimli's nervous system line during the final tally was priceless.
I can't say enough about this movie. But what i can say is that this EE puts TTT right up there on even footing with the FOTR dvd which I thought the theatrical version of TTT just didn't live up to. No longer.

It is so amazing how the new scenes are so flawlessly woven in and add so much to the movie.
Moreso than with fellowship, this really opened up the movie and made me like it more. Even the battle scenes are better.

Another thing. Did you think the color was "richer" in this one? I think the did some more color editing from the first DVD release. A lot of details of color and clothing jumped out at me more. Legolas' arrows when they are being surrounded by the Rhorrim look a lot greener than before. Also it seemed like they put more flesh tones back into Aragorn and most of the other characters faces. The one notable exception is Eowyn. There is one face to face scene with Aragorn when I'm beting they put a pale color wash on her (in keeping with her description in the book) and left him at the richer color levels.
*spoiler* I also liked the longer interaction between Saruman and Wormtounge, including the bit about the serpent ring that Aragorn wears. I need to freeze frame some of Aragorn's shots and look for that ring. I know I saw it in one scene.

AJ, to see Aragorn's ring, maybe the best place is in FotR when Boromir picks up the Ring on the mountain, and they show that Aragorn was holding his sword during the whole exchange. Good shot of it there.
Yes, I did that from memory. I am in love - you must remember this.
I noticed the color, too! I'm glad someone else did, because that means it's real and not my imagination.
The scene with Faramir/Boromir/Denethor should have been in the theatrical. If nothing else, that one should have been. It ties their stories together in all three movies - it's so sad that some people will never see it!
There was so much that I loved. Treebeard's last line about the Entwives was perhaps the saddest line, ever. And...and...ah! Just so much. The EE was about a thousand times better than the theatrical. I'll probably never watch the theatrical again, actually. I will for FotR, but not for TTT. I just couldn't.
To everyone who cares even a little bit about these movies - even if you don't buy it, rent it, borrow it, whatever. See it as soon as you can. You will enjoy the story so, so much more.

Did you find them yourself or on a website? You don't have to answer that, but unless you found it yourself, I say they did a good enough job.
Anyway, I watched the first disc last night with the commentary and the actual show. I'd do the second disk tonight, but have home work to do. Blah.

I noticed the mistake watching last night. I usually pick things up if they are obvious like the rope. I know there are sites and people out there that dedicate themselves to uncovering these mistakes. Those people obviously are missing the point of the movies.

I'd say I can still watch the theatrical FotR because I fell so hard for it when I first saw it, and because I've seen the EE enough times that I can just fill in the gaps myself if I (for some reason) need to save myself the half hour.
Regarding Brego's bridle - yeah, I wondered about that, too. It'd actually be pretty dangerous to set a horse out free with a rope tied to its head, and I'm sure the people of Rohan would never endanger their horses, ever. Maybe he was just sent out to roam for a while, until the battles were over, because "he's seen enough of war," but not actually free free. But even then, why with the rope on? I could maybe see leaving the bridle on, since it's not really a problem.

I noticed it because I live with a man who CANNOT keep his mouth shut about stuff like that. It didn't actually bother me until he pointed it out.
Also, when all the Meaningful Looks were being exchanged between Aragorn and Legolas when he finally showed up at Helm's Deep... We had some fun, there. Like, "You know, I sort of have this thing for elves..." "No way, Scruffy-- you've been kissing a horse" etc. *wipes tear*

I can't believe that they didn't include the Denethor/Boromir/Faramir scene - the movie makes so much more sense with it added back in, and it changes how you view all 3 movies!

Typing at all right now is interesting because I just gave mysefl a horlible paper cut. One of those kinds that stings and makes you jump up and down (and cuss for those of you so inclined). So my index finger is all taped up.

Go to Disk 1 and go to the last scene selection screen, around 30 I think. When you are at the last scene you can choose, press down. I ring should hightlite to the left of the bottom of the screen. Hit enter.

You know, I just had to say, I loved seeing the Huorns get the orcs.
It really was a shame that scene had to be cut. It and the lead up to it really weren't all that long. But the lead up was necessary or else there would have been confusion. Both probably did clock in over a minute. There was likely a contracted time Jackson had to keep the film under, as well.
It would be really, really hard to edit a movie like that.

Have you guys watched the special features?
I've finished the first disc now. They're very very cool.
This one has a much extended Tolkien/history of middle earth chapter that is prety fun. And they actually talk about all the differences and changes made that strayed from the book. and talk about why they did them and stuff. pretty interesting.
the gollum chapter is great. check out gollum with a blue light mohawk. and the things they went through to create gollum, and everything really is just amazing. this movie seems like it was a lot bigger feat than fellowship. and it's gotten me really excited for ROTK. i hope these special features and repeat viewing will be enough to hold me over.

I am always so critical when it comes to the LotR movies. I guess its just because I have such a high standard for them. I must say however, this EE is very well put togeather. The extra scenes give a depth to the story and make it less of an action packed, hack and slash movie. I exspecially like the part when Aragorn talks about his age and history with Eowyn.
