I am so excited about this! I was never particularly fond of the story, or of the first movie, but I adore Johnny Depp, so I'm excited anyway.

How can you not be fond of the story? It's lovely. It'a lovely book.
The movie was blasphemy, pure and simple. Charlie's supposed to be good and they gave him a vice! It's a fairy story and they introduced a whole other plot!
If you've only ever seen the movie, read the book and then read the sequel (Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator). They are waaaaay better than the movie.

I've never been a fan of Depp at all, but I loved the book as a kid, so I'm interested in seeing what they do with it.

I read the books years before seeing the movie, and never could get what everyone was raving about. The books were awesome, and the movie was . . . meh.

I loved "Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator." But I really didn't like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" as much... I don't know, maybe I'm just weird.
Or maybe it's that I'm not crazy about chocolate.

But that makes you crazy. You're crazy any way you look at it, really.
I loved the movie and both the books (Chocolate Factory more than Glass Elevator). I liked a lot of other Roald Dahl books better, though, so I always felt the movie was more special. Or something.

Ah, see. Chocolate Factory was my favorite Dahl book, and it holds an extremely special place in my heart, so it's hard for any movie to please me.

You know, speaking of that, I wonder why nobody has made a live action film of my favorite book, The BFG. Or have they, and I'm just ignorant? I searched IMDB, but the only thing they appeared to have is a made-for-TV animated movie from the '80s.

Wait a minute... Tim Burton = unique darker side... Oompa Loompas... I'm already terrified of them... what will he do to make it worse!?

Something about that poster reminds me of Edward Scissorhands.
I loved the book but have always found the movie deeply disappointing. I'm curious to see if this version is more faithful to Dahl's story.

God, I love Oompa Loompa's. Tim Burtons take on Oompa Loompa's... RAZOR SHARP TEETH! A killing streak a mile long! Blood soaked gloves!!! MUAHAHAHAHAH!
It's really not fair for anyone to become exponentially sexy every year they get older. By 50 the man will be terminal to the female hormone.

Actually... Perhaps you would enjoy my own writing to the Oompa Loompa song...
Now, for the full affect you must picture this...
You are sleeping quietly to the be jostled, you look up to see someone standing over your bed, 'twas a small man, he turns to face you, an evil glare in his eyes, brandishing a knife, he begins to sing, etching closer to you constantly... (Slow the tempo a bit for this)
Oompa Loompa Doopedy doo I've got a riddle just for you! Oompa Loompa doopedy doo if you are wise you'll listen to me. What is red and dripping with... blood. What bumps in the night and makes you scream out with... dread. What keeps you up from dawn until dusk. We'll let you know that it... is... us! Do do do do do do do
(I know about dawn until dusk... ^_^ It's not right, but most I've met don't catch it)

My favorite Dahl book was always "Danny, Champion of the World" which has an awesome movie, btw, with Jeremy Irons. Though the book is still better, of course. But I also love the BFG, and of COURSE, Matilda!

ah! Matilda was such a great movie! Probaly one of the best movie to book transitions I've seen.

I thought Gene Wilder was too--I don't know. There was something very innocent about Willy Wonka in the book, and Gene Wilder was way too knowing and creepy. I thought. We shall see whether this is better.

OMG! The Famous Five were all I would read for a stretch of about six or so years!! I discovered Enid Blyton when I was seven, and afterwards that was it... I wouldn't read anyone else!

For me it wouldn't play at all until I made it full screen. Either way it was not quite what I expected.
