Your husband will get allturned on if you wear the bun, combined with dorky glasses. (for some reason)

It's 'cause she's a hot, sexy wench. Duh. Plus, she spent a lot of time grinning sardonically at everyone.

Does that librarian thing come from the old movies? I cannot tell you how many men have gotten all hot around the collar just thinking about certain women in bun and dorky glasses.
Hmmm. There was Sergeant Sarah in Guys and Dolls, too.
(sorry, Belle, i am sure this is not really why you want to be a librarian)

Jenny, you could easily add on a library media certification to your teaching certificate, couldn't you?

I talked to a really cute (and nice) librarian at my school last week. Any tips on how I can ask her out?
No, I will not try:
You are overdue.... for a date.
You've been "checked out."
Can I catalog your number?
I have no trouble asking random strangers out on dates. But I do have one weakness: I cannot bring myself to ask people out while they are working. I always feel that it is somewhat inappropriate to bother people while they are at work. Sure, I can stick around the library until closing time and ask her out then, but that seems a bit stalkerish.

Just a bit, hmm?
If I were you, I would wait until the library is in no way busy, and then go up to her and say, "Listen, I don't want to bother you while you're working, but I think you're cute. Would you maybe be interested in going for coffee or something?"
Then again, I tend to prefer the most direct approach possible.

"Edit: Elizabeth, I think you just topped my worst pun. Officially."
There are no bad puns, Trevor, just a Pun Smackdown Initiator who is focused on his upcoming nuptials.

If nothing else, this should clear my library fines. If she likes me, fines magicall disappear! If she hates me, she would feel too awkward to ask for the money. Wooo hooo!

Hey, it works for some people, and I bet a lot of people (read: women) here would agree with me.

Or maybe he's just implying that he'll have to go to Borders to get books instead of going to the library because he'd be too embarassed to face the librarian.
I'm really offended that you think I would get porn at Borders. Everyone knows the internet is the place to get porn.

Secret confession: I used to help out my school librarian by shelving books, and putting misshelved book back in the right order, and I loved doing that.

I know a lot of you have talked about being bored in a library - but the field of library and information science is anything but boring now.
I read an article (which I can't find dagnabbit! ) not too long ago about medical librarians that actually went on rounds with doctors. They were specialists - one worked in emergency med, one in another section of the hospital, and they carried their laptops with them, and when the doctors were on rounds talking to patients and med students, they would be available to look up the latest information right there. In some cases actually pulled up information that helped the doctor make a diagnosis. Some doctors have even phoned medical libraries from the OR.
Yeah, I know I sound a recruitment video - but there is so much more to LIS than just books and shelving them and keeping collections. There is so much more going on, and it's a great time to be going into the field.

I would totally be thinking about doing this (with the aim of working in a university science or medical library) . . . if it paid better.

The difference between my current salary and the current salaries in my area for university librarians (at least those with less than 10-15 years experience) is not worth another two years of school (and that's full-time -- it would take me longer). At least not the last time I looked.
