The city of New York has not been blessed by a visit from The Rivka in many a moon. This will soon change.

I just booked my tickets on Jet Blue. I will arrive the morning of Friday, September 9 and leave the afternoon of Wednesday, September 14. Saturday is out, and the wedding I'm going for is on the 13th. So that's out (except maybe early in the day) too.

Other than that, my schedule is currently pretty open. That will change (I have lots of people I want to see), but y'all get first crack.

Anyone interested in getting together?

Sunday?!! I can meet you wherever you are in New York, or we can stomp around your old stomping grounds in New Jersey.

Tante, Sunday sounds good. [Smile] As for where, I'm not sure yet where I will be for Shabbos (possibly Monsey). The other consideration is if other Hatrackers want to join us.

Um . . . mph, what kq said. One of my friends from high school is getting married. She is really happy that I will be there -- said it would make her night if I came. How could I not?

Telpy, thanks. [Smile] Yeah, NYC is a fun place to visit. I've been wanting to for a while.

afr, it seems unlikely, since I'll be getting in at crack-of-dawn-thirty (also known as 5 am). I assume your flight leaves considerably later in the day? And you are likely booked, since a Wednesday-Friday trip must be business?

adam, cool. [Smile] And while we do have quite a number of kosher restaurants out here, we are currently sorely lacking in most authentic kosher ethnic-type food: Thai, Indian, etc.

Besides, nowhere has the plethora of kosher restaurants that NYC does. [Big Grin]

mack, I wouldn't ask you to drive 10 hours just to see lil' ol me. But look, other people are going to be there too! [Wink]

Do we have any other NYC area (or nearby) Hatrackers who are likely to need to be scheduled around as well? I confess to not being up to date on these things, and I'd like to be able to get together with as many of y'all as we can manage.

Rivka, yeah, it's sort of a business trip. Actually, it's to pick up a reward for our annual report at a banquet. So, a little funner than a business trip.

We're not flying out on the 9th until about 4:30 pm local time. I'm not going to try to meet up with anybody out there. I just thought it was a cool coincidence.

What are the ships doing at the airport? Are there jets at the harbor?

I adore Indian food. Manhattan also has Japanese Kosher food that is nice. Fancy white-table cloth restaurants, French, Italian, Chinese (of course), Middle Eastern, and lots and lots of Kosher Pizza. My son's favorite Kosher restaurant in New York right now is "My Favorite Dessert Place", which is a dairy restaurant with yummy pasta dishes, and, of course, desserts.

But, neh, I don't know if that matters. I don't think he's invited. And even if he was invited, he has school on Sundays. Yeshiva schedules.

Tante, I'm sure your son is invited. But as you say, with yeshiva schedules, it may not matter. Japanese sounds yummy too.

What, exactly, do I need to do to become real? A la Velveteen Rabbit, I've already had a small boy say that he loves me and that I'm real. But I get the feeling that "Hatrack Real" has different qualifications.

I hope a scavenger hunt is not involved. I hate hunting for scavengers.

Tante, I'm not sure if you can ever become real, simply because meeting hatrackers in person usually requires spending a bit of time not actually posting on Hatrack!

Ooops, I meant to note that rollover. Ah well.

So, sounds like at least some of us will be getting together at some time on Sunday, September 11th? And adam is going to plan some outingness, and at some point during (or before, or after) the outingness, kosher food of some not-yet-determined ethnicity will be consumed.

Is that right?

I'm sure someone thought of this already but just in case... given the date involved, you might want to check and see what kind of anniversary remembrance type events are happening that could potentially interfere with your plans?

Do we want to go to any sort of commemorative events?

A quick suggestion of what to do...

If you really want to do some tourist stuff you might want to buy a ticket for the double decker bus. It takes you all over the city and you can get off and on as you please. I was born in NY (but moved to florida at a young age) and have visited the city countless times to visit family and see some shows, but it was not until this summer I actually did the tourist thing. We went on the double decker and I saw more of NY in one day then I saw my whole life. It really is a good time.

They have people all over the city selling tickets, you should check it out.

Dont forget to see a show!! TKTS located at Time Square and South Street Sea Port sells tickets for that days shows 50% off. (I got tickets for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels for 50 dollors)

I would rather not go to a commemorative event. I remember just fine what happened that day; it is burned into my memory.

Seeing a Broadway show is pricey, even at the half-price tickets, and it is unlikely that we would be able to get seats together, and we certainly wouldn't have the opportunity to chit chat and get to know eachother during the show.

I vote for more light and social settings -- restaurant, park, museum, walking those fascinating NY streets, and shopping in those fascinating NY shops.

The bus tour could be fun, though.

Not a mandate, just your Shvester's two cents.

We will try, but at best we would only be able to make a day trip of it...although if we CAN swing it we might ride down with Mack or something....we could meet up part way, that way we don't all have to spend an arm and a leg to park in the city...

If we do have to pay, I hereby nominate Nate's arm...I've seen him fence, and trust me he doesn't really use it well as it is. [Big Grin]

Other than to knock over the game board if he is losing...right Jamie? [Big Grin]

Tante, I don't think anyone would have taken it as a mandate....no matter how many times you post each day. [Razz]

I have no real interest in a commemorative event either; but neither am I against going to one. Just wanted to float the notion.

I very much want to see a Broadway show while I am there, but I agree it's really not a good group thing. Maybe I'll do that Monday sometime.

The Met sounds good; restaurants (hey, we gotta eat! [Big Grin] ) sound very good; and shopping is fun, especially in NYC.

But most of those things I can do Monday or Wednesday as well; for Sunday I'm primarily interested in spending time with y'all. [Smile]
