I thought at first it might have to do with being chastised by OSC (I didn't care much for that experience myself, though unlike KoM, I didn't deserve it. I left for a couple of months myself when that happened.) but I see from some quick searching that his last post was almost a week before that happened.

Wasn't he planning to embark on a cross country trip? I hope he didn't drive into the Grand Canyon, a la Thelma and Louise.

Ah, well, it was only a matter of time. Posting one of Mr. Card's pet peeves in a thread about his class is just inviting teh smackdown.

King of Men is on his way to California. [Smile]

As an aside, am I the only person on the forum who actually kinda likes him? I mean, when he's on, he's really very funny. And it's obvious that he's a total softie at heart, just ask about his girlfriend. [Big Grin]

I like him. He's abrasive, arrogant, and obnoxious. And he knows just what buttons to push to drive people crazy.

What's not to like?

KoM is abrasive, sure, but the reaction of many here to him is way over the top. I've said it before and I'll say it again - Hatrackers are the most sensitive people I have ever met on the 'net.

I think his style is counterproductive, but that doesn't make me dislike him. It makes me not want to debate stuff with him, but as it turns out we agree on a fair number of issues.

Oddly enough, I actually miss the guy too.

I both like and hate his style. I've learned to look past his deliberate offensiveness and focus instead on the points he is trying to make, which are almost always very clear and articulate. I too feel that he could be a lot more productive if he changed his style. But at the same time, I don't really want him to change his style. I find myself laughing at his posts more often now, even when he's insulting me.

What can I say, his atypical charm is growing on me. In fact, I was even concerned about his recent problems with getting money from his home bank and going to California. Anyone have any updates?

I was chastised by OSC once. *reminisces* It didn't bother me too much because he was wrong and I was right. [Razz]

I think KoM has potential, but the current execution is pathetic.

Hatrack, however, is darling. Everyone short of pedophiles and murderers can find defenders.

And yep, I strongly dislike KoM's delivery.

I like KoM and don't mind his style. It's kinda one of those things where you (well, I) go, "Oh, that's just KoM, don't take it personally, he's always this way." In that light, even at his most ascerbic, he is often very funny.

My personal favorite was the post where he mocked up a parent's note to God for their child to get out of making moral choices that day. Sometimes I think he's got a better idea of who God is than most Christians.

I find him obnoxious. He may have a good point or two buried under there, but by and large, eh. I think he's really extraordinarily rude--which, to me, kind of trumps any other good aspects that he might otherwise possess.

OSC defended KoM once too, something about KoM saying something bratty about America, and OSC agreed with him in a kind of funny way. It was on the other side, but I don't remember where, exactly.

The guy bugs me to no end, but I'm kinda with jeniwren. I've pretty much accepted that that is just the way he is.

It only really bothers me when people suggest that he tone it down a bit and he goes on about how he doesn't care what a group of people on the internet think of his style. If you don't care, leave! Go to some other internet forum where they approve of needless flamewarring! Jeez.

FWIW, it was not my intention to put him down in this thread.

Now, since it has been brought up, I appreciate it when he makes an effort to not call theists idiots. I think it's unfortunate that it takes him so much effort.

I like KoM and I usually agree with his viewpoint. He can be quite entertaining but he misses the bar in most discussions that require tact. I'd equate expecting tact from Kom on a sensitive subject to attempting to construct a ship in a bottle with a framing hammer.

One other thing I appreciate about KoM is that although his posting style is often needlessly provocative, he actually participates in the thread he's posting in, as opposed to making useless comments that are essentially masturbatory and contribute nothing to the thread topic.

As I was the first to say [Cry] , I like him. [Smile] KoM was always the first to laugh at himself and one of the first to go along with a joke. I always looked at him as a kind of atheist Andy Kaufman, someone who parodied himself, his persona as a religion hater so well, that the real him was often overlooked.

I don't think hatrack is the most sentimental place on the internet, I'm on a horse message board that gets upset when someone tells them that they did something at all wrong in a nice constructive way, there are about 20 people like that there out of 30, hatracks much better than that, we can embrace the funny at least.
