Usually sequels are awful. Jurassic Park and the Matrix are examples of these. But there are a few gems out there that I have found that are better than the original. I've been trying to think, and these are the ones I've come up with:

Aliens is better than Alien

Terminator 2 is better than Terminator

Empire Strikes Back is better than New Hope

And of course Sister Act 2 is better than Sister Act.

Have any you care to add to the list?

Sister Act 2 is better than Sister Act?!

[incoherent splutter]

...well, you have the right to hold your opinion, even if it's TOTALLY AND UTTERLY WRONG.

[duck]

Anyway, my contributions:

Superman 2 is at least as good as the first Superman film, although choosing the better of the two is a toss-up.

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade trumps the first two installments.

And I'm tempted to say that Batman Returns was better than Batman, and that Batman and Robin was easily the most entertaining of the series (which is not to say that it was actually good), but I suspect the reactions to that would make my reaction to the Sister Act thing seem mild and understated.

Come on, with all those kids and that one guy singing "Oh Happy Day"? That just made it for me. I might be crazy. I've been told that often enough.

Spiderman 2 > Spiderman
Batman Begins > Batman Forever / Batman & Robin, and is on level with the Batman / Batman Returns.

Shark Attack 3 = best possible movie of all time.

That's right, you heard it here first.

Toy Story 2 is better than Toy Story, although they're both good.

And the Harry Potter movies have gotten better as time goes on. I liked #3 & 4 better than 1 & 2.

Second on Shrek 2!

Shrek 2 was also good.

How can you beat Jaws 2 with the electrocuted flaming shark falling into the water at the end, of course they only go down hill from there?

Jaws 3 in 3D

Jaws 4 the revenge, this time it’s personal.

I think "sequels" that are adaptations of books themselves (such as the last to LOTR movies and every Harry Potter movie) shouldn't count as sequels. They're much more related to the books they're adapting than to the previous movies.

</soapbox>

And, I disagree that Terminator 2 was better than Terminator. I find the first movie to be much darker, much scarier, and far more interesting...and, well, adult. Probably has to do with the introduction of the child star. [Big Grin]

And while MD3 may be worse than the other two, MD2 is definately better than MD.

However, I think you should note what I actually said.

Note the decided lack of the "Star Trek" qualifier before the "almost all movies." I mean, pick any random movie and it's bound to be better than ST:TMP. I'm just saying. . .

I'll concede that MD2 was possibly as good as (or, if it's that special time of year, better than) MD1...as long as we're clear that MD3 was worse than diving into a swimming pool full of double edged razor blades.

I'm still open to taking it outside, though. But with Jello, not pudding.

Once again, I have to say that the best Shark movie is in fact Shark Attack 3 I mean c'mon, the people on the boat get scared, so they all jump into the water, someguy steals a lifevest from a woman and jumps overboard into the sharks waiting mouth, and to top it off, the Bad Guy rides a Sea-doo down said shark's throat! What more can you ask for? "Worst Acting on the Planet," you say? This movie delivers, so long as when you talk about movies and you say "good" you occaisonally mean, "so bad that it hurts so good."

Blasphemy. Ewoks are a step above Gungans, but only because midgets were involved.

Also, Jack Frost II > Jack Frost (The one with the killer snowman, not the one where the kids fater (Kevin Costner?) gets reincarnated as a lovable frosty.

That would depend on what you liked and disliked about the first one. The second one had far less action and less campiness.
