Jokes on all of you, I don't even like pie. Well except maybe chicken pot pie and shepherd's pie. Happy Thanksgiving Folks!

After forcing myself to go buy ingredients for pies and cranberry salad late last night I came home and found that evil bugs had got into my shortening. First thing this morning I started to make my mom's cranberry salad (more of a relish, actually.) and had a total emotional meltdown because my blender was broken. Ends up it just wasn't plugged in ::blush:: I am really stoked because it tastes just like my mom's.
I went to the store this morning to get more shortening. There was an old homeless lady outside and sat down and talked to her for a while, made sure she had plenty to eat and had money for the bus.
After throwing away two beligerent batches of pie crust, I finally made some I was satisfied with and have made a million little pumpkin pies. I suppose I might share them.

I ate turkey and ham and turnip greens with Mama and Daddy at Cracker Barrel, then went hiking in the Sauratown Mountains, then came home and took a 2.5 hour nap. That was some of the best sleep I've had in months. I'm totally relaxed.

My mother makes a spectacular apple pie. So naturally my sister asked me to bring the pie for Thanksgiving.
Fortunately for everyone I had a cunning plan which involved me peeling and slicing apples while the complicated (for me) crust part was taken care of by the expert just immediately before dinner.
Now it's time for pie!

Turkey Stuffing Gravy Mashed potatoes Green bean casserole (which I made, but don't like) Petite peas with pearl onions (which I made for those of us who don't like the green beans, and ate three servings of) Tzimmes (my mom was asked to bring a sweet potato dish, this tzimmes recipe had sweet potatoes, apricots, carrots, cinnamon, pineapple juice and orange juice. She left out the optional prunes. We all adored it and I got to take some home.) Cranberry sauce (whole berry and jellied) Rolls with butter (an assortment; I got my sourdough, the kids ate Hawaiian rolls) And of course, the traditional Jell-o salad.
And I drank a bunch of Martinelli's sparkling cider.
Then we had dessert. Pumpkin and pecan pie, mmm. And I had some CS Mandarin Orange Spice herbal tea with it.

I am gonna copy most of KQ's list for mine:

EVERYONE in the house is Jewish, and my mother was orthodox for a while, yet she is the one who brought the ham.
The turkey vanished quickly. It was the most delicious, moistest, bestest ( ) turkey that I have ever had. Apparently they soaked it in brine for 24 hours before cooking it. It was as close to perfection as you can get, and I normally don't even like turkey. I guess I have just never had a turkey that was cooked properly.
They didn't have any loose leaf tea so I didn't have any, unfortunately.
I guess that's it.
Oh, my cousin brought her friend over and she looked EXACTLY like a slightly younger version of a friend of mine. I had to do a double take and ask what school she went to so I could figure out if they went to the same area, because I didn't want to sound like a crazy person and ask if she was sisters with a random person.
