Is anyone still planning on playing the new game Pirates of the Burning Seas? I know Bok and a few others were considering it, so I picked up the pre-order yesterday. I am loading it now, and will be playing it tomorrow probably. I have a friend at GameStop who gave me the pre-order disk even though I haven't ordered it so I could check it out and give him a review. [Smile]

I played the demo for a few days, but as much as I love pirates, it didn't do much for me. Unless the final version in much improved over the demo I played a month ago, I don't think I'll bother. [Frown]

I read up on how the economy worked in the game and I am very excited. The graphics don't look that good tho.

I really enjoyed ATITD because I liked how the economy worked. The fact that EVERYTHING in the pirates game has to be made by users (from cannon balls to the materials that make ships and the ships themselves) and economic warfare will be a large factor in war has me geeking out.

I will get it when it is released and a little more polished. Realistically I will only play it for a month, but I am looking forward to the release.

I have always wanted to play a MMORPG with a truly player run economic system that works. ATITD does that, but I miss fighting and LOVE pirates!

That sounds really cool. If the game gets decent reviews (or if the things that reviewers complain about don't sound like problems to me) I'll probably give this a try. I'll have to read a bit more about how the economics will work, though.

The player-controlled economy actually scares me more than entices me. Players have found out how to mess up the economy of almost every MMORPG I've played. It's a neat idea, but I wonder how long it will work effectively.

It sounds like it's ready made for gold-farmers to come in and hose everyone else... unless the developer is going to sell gold too.

That is my fear. However, I read that each play only ever gets 10 plots to work from. Individually they have very little power over the economy, but as a "society" they can be quite influential.

I hope it works. This is my dream style game.

I tried to download the files needed for the pre-order, and they are too big to download. I may buy this game, but it would have been nice to try it out first. [Frown]
