From the point of conception
To the moment of truth
At the point of surrender
To the burden of proof

From the point of ignition
To the final drive
The point of the journey is not to arrive

Anything can happen...

Quick to anger,
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand...

It doesn't mean much
It doesn't mean anything at all
The life I've left behind me
is a cold room
I've crossed the last line
from where I can return
where every step I took in faith
betrayed me
and led me from my home

"And every dog cut loose from the harness, free to roam
And the cast-iron runners left to rust in the snow
And it’s three hundred feet to the top
And the bravest of climbers gave it all up and went home
Yea, the bravest of climbers gave it all up and went back [b]home[b]."

-- Curtis Eller, "The Bravest of Climbers"

There's a story that goes with this one. I'm working in the bookstore today, and a tall guy with a mustache walks in and looks around a bit. He showed interest in the music that was playing (a local musician whose CDs we carry). Then he did a double-take at the pile of CDs next to the radio, and said, "That's my CD!" Turns out he's a musician from New York, played a gig down the street from here last night, and the album on top of the pile happened to be one he recorded two years ago!

I couldn't feel, so I tried to touch
I've told the truth, I didn't come to fool you
And even though
It all went wrong
I'll stand before the Lord of Song

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens
Bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens
Brown paper packages tied up with strings
These are a few of my favorite things

Cream colored ponies and crispapple strudel
Doorbells and sleighbells and schnitzel with noodles
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings
These are a few of my favorite things

Girls in white dresses and blue satin sashes
Snowflakes that stay on your nose and eye lashes
Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

When the dog bites
When the bee stings
When I'm feeling sad
I simply remember my favorite things
And then I don't feel so bad

Silver white winters that melt into springs
These are a few of my favorite things

I absolutely love this song...now I've gotten my daughter addicted to it as well. My son is now looking for a new home.

Will there ever be time enough?
Or are we just too naive?
I haven't just given up
Oh God, I still believe
Is patience still waiting?
Will I wait on my knees too?
Are you laughing at us today?
And is this just one big game?
Now cash me in while you can
We never were the same
Come on
Will you ever have all you want?
And are we just next in line?
Don't throw out your one good chance
You only have this time.

We were locked in this kitchen
I took to religion
And I wondered how long she would stay
I needed so much
To have nothing to touch
I've always been greedy that way
But my son and my daughter
Climbed out of the water
Crying, Papa, you promised to play
And they lead me away
To the great surprise
It's Papa, don't peek, Papa, cover your eyes
And they hide, they hide in the World

6 underground,
the ground beneath your feet,
Laid out low,
nothing to go,

round here,
Overground,
watch this space,
I'm open to falling from grace.
