I can't say that I fully understand the purpose, or usefulness of this as a ringtone.
Isn't the vibrate mode intended to do the same thing, namely, alert the owner without disturbing everyone else?
And there are so many other things that emit this type of sound that I would imagine there would be a lot of false alerts where the owner thought they received a message only to find out that the high pitch sound was coming from something else.
I was actually hoping that I wouldn't be able to hear this. That way if this ringtone becomes popular, I won't have to hear everyone's obnoxious ringtones all the time. Unfortunately I can hear this one, and it is more annoying than most people's ringtones.

I can hear it, but it just sounds like squeel that comes and goes naturally. I'm gonna continue assuming that that is supposed to happen.
