This thread was cool. I don’t recall the origins of the game, but I won’t let that stop me from bringing it back .
The rules are simple. I’ll post some song lyrics to kick us off. The next poster will think of lyrics with one word in common with the lyrics I posted. So if I were to post:
Dashing through the snow In a one horse open sleigh
The next poster might post:
As long as we’ve no place to go Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow
Bold your common word. If I recall correctly OSC does not condone posting entire songs (seeing as how they are copyrighted and whatnot) but to my knowledge excerpts are acceptable. Let us know the artist and title. And finally, creativity is a plus. It’s lame to use words like “is” as your common word imho.
And to kick us off
Rufus Wainwright "California"
Ain’t it a shame that at the top Peanut butter and jam they served you Ain’t it a shame that at the top Still those soft skin boys can bruise you Yes I fell for a streaker

Oh Shenandoah, I long to see you, Way-hey, you rolling river, Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
For seven years I courted Nancy, Way-hey, you rolling river, No other girl would suit my fancy. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
She would not have me for her lover, Way-hey, you rolling river, But I never courted any other. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
One day she went to Kansas City, Way-hey, you rolling river, And there she had a little baby. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
She must have had another lover, Way-hey, you rolling river, It must have been that cavalry soldier. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
Oh, Shenandoah, I love your daughter, Way-hey, you rolling river, Though she'll never cross your shining waters. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.
Oh, Shenandoah, I long to see you, Way-hey, you rolling river, Oh, Shenandoah, now I must leave you. Away, I'm bound away, across the wide Missouri.

Help, I need somebody, Help, not just anybody, Help, you know I need someone, help.
When I was younger, so much younger than today, I never needed anybody's help in any way. But now these days are gone, I'm not so self assured, Now I find I've changed my mind and opened up the doors.
Help me if you can, I'm feeling down And I do appreciate you being round. Help me, get my feet back on the ground, Won't you please, please help me.

I don't care if it rains or freezes, 'Long as I've got my plastic Jesus Settin' on the dashboard of my car. Comes in colors pink and pleasant, Glows in the dark 'cause it's luminescent, Take him with you when you travel far.
Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus, Settin' on the dashbord of my car, I don't never feel alone, And he gets me safely home, Though I'm weavin' all across the tar.
When pedestrians try to cross, I jest let 'em know who's boss, I don't ever honk or give 'em warning. Like to drive all over town Tryin' for to run 'em down; It's seldom that they live to see the morning.
Plastic Jesus, Plastic Jesus, Settin' on the dashboard of my car. His halo fits just right And I use it for a sight To splatter all the spatter near and far.

I caught my eye in a swinging door. I'd never seen that man before. I saw myself in someone else and hated them ever since. Some broken glass and a bleeding hand. The mirror's down but I'm still standing. Stand. I know who I am.

Grey-haired and flint-eyed, his sunburned face lined, Grandpa was a man of few words. He had a way of not wanting to say Any more than he thought would be heard.
The long years of living and day-to-day giving had carved out a map on his face; With little to lose, he'd learned how to choose, And his choices were easy to trace.
He had the eyes of a painter, Heart of a maker of songs. His words fell like rain on the dry desert plain, Precious and so quickly gone.

Do you derive joy from diving in And seeing that loving someone can actually feel like freedom? Are you funny? à la self-deprecating? Like adventure? and have many formed opinions?
These are 21 things that I want in a lover, Not necessarily needs but qualities that I prefer. I figure I can describe it since I have a choice in the matter. These are 21 things I choose to choose in a lover.

And Jesus was a sailor When he walked upon the water And he spent a long time watching From his lonely wooden tower And when he knew for certain Only drowning men could see him He said "All men will be sailors then Until the sea shall free them"
But he himself was broken Long before the sky would open Forsaken, almost human He sank beneath your wisdom like a stone
And you want to travel with him And you want to travel blind And you think maybe you'll trust him For he's touched your perfect body with his mind.

It's hard to escape from this fair lady's bower, For high are the windows, and guarded the tower, But there's always a way where there is a will, And young Eileen is gone with Ned on the Hill
Who sings, "Lady love, come to me now, Come and live merrily, under the bough. And I'll pillow thy head where the fairies tread If thou will but wed with Ned on the Hill."

I think of her, but she thinks only of him, And though it's only a whim, she thinks of him. Oh, how long will it take, Till she sees the mistake she has made? Dear what can I do? Baby's in black and I'm feeling blue, Tell me, oh, what can I do?

"Over here! "Over here! Can't you see where memories are kept bright? Tripping on the water like a laughing girl. Time in her eyes is spawning past life, One with the ocean and the woman unfurled, Holding all the love that waits for you here. Catch us now for I am your future. A kiss on the wind and we'll make the land. Come over here to where When lingers, Waiting in this empty world, Waiting for Then, when the lifespray cools. For Now does ride in on the curl of the wave, And you will dance with me in the sunlit pools. We are of the going water and the gone. We are of water in the holy land of water And all that's to come runs in With the thrust on the strand."
