I was browsing the forums and it seems people here wear their philosophies right on top of their heads, so it wouldn't be out of place to say I'm secular with objectivist leanings in a Catholic country.
OSC is probably tired of getting fan art of this particular book, but I thought it would be fun if there was a chance he would see this image.
By the way, I am heavy into "anime" stylization (even worked in the industry for a bit), so not everyone might like this picture.
It also has a very exaggerated portrayal of red shift/blue shift.
Production notes: The officers in the background are Rackham, Graff, and Anderson. The fourth is a space-filling extra. I KNOW Rackham wasn't in the room at the time this scene occured. As for the starships, I made sure they didn't fall victim to the 2d thinking of most sf ship design, like in Star Wars, etc. where they have all the guns and interesting things on one side of the craft, like a naval vessel! It makes no sense. So, the Hive Queen fleet ships are symmetrical on 6 sides, and the IF ships are symmetrical on 4 sides (The IF fighters on 2 sides if you can spot them).
My sister works with kids and assures me that this is what an eleven year old kid with military training would look like...

That is VERY impressive. Great shadow and line work. I love the fact that you went into the minor details with the work. It's those subtle details like the simulation time and the holopad he's using that make it all the more believable. I never thought of Ender looking like that but when I look at that picture I believe it is him.
P.S - Kudos for the bandage where Ender bit his hand!

Sorry, there is no more that would fit the context of the forums.

Can you catch the IF symbol? Or figure out the command buttons on the console?

I hadn't noticed the different command buttons actually, very cool! I'm guessing the IF symbol (which I had previously noticed) is that design on the ship that looks somewhat like a crosshair?
A Battle Room work could go a long way.
P.S - Just remember, animated or not, the Ender's Game movie WILL need a storyboard artist if it comes to fruition. Good to get your work out there Posts: 14 | Registered: Aug 2005

Excellent artwork, Ruben! I love your use of color in this piece--it sets the tone of the scene very well. Do you have other works displayed on the internet? If so, I'd love to see them; I'm a fan of anime-type art myself. Posts: 973 | Registered: Apr 2005

I love the work, but am troubled by the right hand (on our left). It looks like it just becomes a sharp pointy thing with all kinds of other thingies coming off of it. I would like to see the other fingers.

Is it confusing? The hand is bandaged.

I had the idea of him gripping the resting pad of the control lever so tight that it reopens the wound.

oh. heh. found it - yeah, OSC's right, it wouldn't work . Or, on the outside chance it did express the characters and stories well, it would garner only a small audience compared to what live-action could grab . ah, but an Ender's Game Manga or Anime - <sigh> if only Card'd grown up on Lone Wolf'n Cub, ey?

Hm. I like the ship design very much, and the game. I take issue only with Ender's face. It seems . . . I don't know. His face doesn't fit; nor does his posture. Somehow I imagine him more fervid and intent.

That's...so many different kinds of awesome.
What's amazing about is that I created solid images in my mind of what I thought Ender's universe looked like as I read (and re-read, hundreds of times) the books, and this is NOTHING like it - but works just as well. Typically my mind rejects foreign versions.

Makes me grin from ear to ear like a satisfied baby. Especially the objectivist leanings. But now we're not satisfied are we Mr de Vela? Now I need to see Peter in a good politician's suit and Anderson in formal function attrire and, and...

Hey Icarus, I was quoting a slice of Mr de Vela.
We have so many pictures of Ender in our heads, and this before unthought of one seems to slip amongst them so fine. I looked forward to comin home this eve to see this on me screensaver. Just tops.

That is one of the most unique blend of style types ive seen in a piece of art, something similar has been done before but I love how it had a fair mix of anime styles into it. I thought it was great - good job and by all means if you get inspired put up more.
