We have a small axe
Ready to cut you down, ( well sharp)
Sharpened to cut you down.

You could see them coming.
You looked too small
In their big, black car,
To be a threat to the men in power.

I've got a mind that can steer me,
To your house,
And a heart that can bring you,
Red flowers,

My intentions are good,
And earnest, and true,
But under my hood,
Is internal combustion power,

And Satan is my motor,
Hear my motor power,
Satan is my motor, motor,
Hear my motor power,

Satan is the only one,
Who seems to understand,...

Morality would frown upon
Decency look down upon
The scapegoat fate's made of me
But I promise you, my judge and jurors
My intentions couldn't have been purer
My case is easy to see

(Show me, don't tell me)
You've figured out the score
(Show me, don't tell me)
I've heard it all before
(Show me, don't tell me)
I don't care what you say
(Show me, don't tell me)

You can twist perceptions
Reality won't budge
You can raise objections
I will be the judge
And the jury

The evidence before the court is incontravertible.
There's no need for the jury to retire.
In all my years of judging I have never heard before,
Of someone more deserving of the full penalty of the law.

quote:
"Paint a moustache on the Mona Lisa"
This reminds me of that scene in Batman where they throw paint all over the paintings and this song is playing in the background:

"Gentlemen, let's broaden our minds!
Lawrence..."

(oh, yeah)

All hail - the new king in town
Young and old, gather 'round (yeah)
Black and white, red and green (funky)
The funkiest man U've ever seen

Tell U what his name is
Partyman, partyman
Rock a party like nobody can
Rules and regulations - no place in his nation
Partyman, partyman

Prince - Partyman
(I'm sorry I used "and" as the linking word, I couldn't resist posting this song, please don't kill me)

Stretched to the point of no turning back

Standing alone my senses reeled
A fatal attraction holding me fast, how
Can I escape this irresistible grasp?

There are times
When you find
Lobsters in a bucket
Can’t climb out
Why won’t they climb away?
Because other lobsters
Pull them down

Cherry pits and paper clips
And people talking smack
Giant squid will come right up
And pull your train right off the track.
Mammoth broom swoops on down
And sweeps you in a whole

Friends help each other
Any way they can
When you’re up at bat
They’ll be your biggest fan
When you’re in a pit
They’ll pull you out of it
It ain’t wrong to write a song
For all your friends to sing along.

People too me and you
Can also be like lobsters in bucket
It’s all just one big mess
Please don’t be a lobster
Friends are best

Making lunch for the baseball bunch
While playing violin
Feeding bands to giant clams
That’s where the fun begins
Cantaloupes and cowboy ropes
Hone those whittleing skills

Friends help each other
Any way they can
When you’re up at bat
They’ll be your biggest fan
When you’re in a pit
They’ll pull you out of it
It ain’t wrong to write a song
For all your friends to sing along

Sometimes I feel the fear of uncertainty stinging clear
And I can't help but ask myself how much I'll let the fear take the wheel and steer.
It's driven me before, it seems to have a vague
Haunting mass appeal
Lately I'm beginning to find that I should be the one behind the wheel

When you think you've tried every road
Every avenue
Take one more look
At what you found old
And in it you'll find something new

Oh girl
Lead me into your darkness
When this world is trying it's hardest
To leave me unimpressed
Just one caress
From you and I'm blessed

People dancing all in the street
See the rhythm all in their feet
Life is good wild and sweet
Let the music play on
(Play on, play on)
Feel it in your heart
And feel it in your soul
Let the music take control
We're going to party
Liming, fiesta, forever
Come on and sing my song!
All night long! (all night)...

All Night Long, Lionel Richie

PS Elizabeth, I am just listing the artist who did the song, I transcribed the lyrics from what I heard on the album. I have no idea who wrote the song first, or if you're talking about a different "because the night", all I know is 10,000 Maniacs does the version I listed.

Oh, I can't close my eyes
And make it go away
How long...
How long must we sing this song
How long, how long...
'cause tonight... we can be as one
Tonight...

Here today gone today
Hurry up and wait
I'm never there for you or me
Can't you read the story of our lives
Death to me and life for you
Something isn't right
And I need some space to
Clear my head to think about
My life

And I can't be alone

I just need some space
To clear my head to think about my life
With or without you

We fight it out
We work it out
Give me some time to unwind

I must confess
I'm falling apart
Breaking your heart
Crying with you on the phone
We're walking on thin ice
I hope it doesn't break

Mile by mile we're farther apart
And it's one empty bottle
And two broken hearts
Night after night we are falling apart
Now it's two broken bottles
And four empty hearts

Decompression
Depression period

If you should go skating,
On the thin ice of modern life,
Dragging behind you the silent reproach,
Of a million tear-stained eyes,
Don't be surprised when a crack in the ice,
Appears under your feet.
You slip out of your depth and out of your mind,
With your fear flowing out from behind,
You as you claw the ice.

Pink Floyd, The Thin Ice.

You never take advice
Someday you'll pay the price
I know

I've seen it before
It happens all the time
You're closing the door
You leave the world behind
You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay

You're as cold as ice
You're willing to sacrifice our love
You want Paradise
But someday you'll pay the price
I know

I've seen it before
It happens all the time
You're closing the door
You leave the world behind
You're digging for gold
Yet throwing away
A fortune in feelings
But someday you'll pay

Cold as ice, you know that you are
Cold, cold, as, as, ice, as cold as ice to me
Cold, cold, as, as, ice

Ooh, ooh, ooh, cold as, cold as ice
You're as cold as ice
You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
You're as cold as ice, yes I know
You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
You're as cold as ice, oh yes I know
You're as cold as ice, cold as ice, I know
You're as cold as ice, oh yes I know
You're as cold as ice, cold as ice

Meanwhile back in the year One,
when you belonged to no-one,
you didn't stand a chance son,
if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity
and sold to society
one day you'll wake up
in the Present Day
a million generations removed from expectations of being who you really want to be.
Skating away, skating away,
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day

Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day, Jethro Tull

Edit: because Damien posts faster than me so I had to use the lame "you'll" instead of "thin ice".
