Ye said a mouthful, EG.

Sarky me lass, savvy comes from
savvy
verb 1. to know; understand. --noun 2. understanding; intelligence; commonsense. [18th century, from pidgin English, from Spanish sabe usted you know]

Arrr! You were right! I was sure 'twas from the French savoir. But all the online slang dogs agree with ye.
*shakes fist* You win this round, me beauty.

Avadaru and I have arranged for an announcement to be made at our school about talk like a pirate day...and I told my friend Laura about it, and she talked one of the late night 104.1 DJs into saying something too.

So I feel I've done my bit.

I'm sitting here playing operator, writing "international talk like a pirate day" on the top of all the fliers with pirate jargon that I've printed out to distribute at work and at school. And I get to grab people as they come into the building and tell them about TLAP Day. Hope no one minds a student worker operator who tells people to talk like a pirate.....

operators really have lots of free time. I wanna be an operater when I grow up

I be thinkin' that it mightn be a suitable gesture to follow the lead of Pirate Dave Barry - who might be celebrating "Talk Like a Pirate to Telemarketers Day."

Or, as he wrote: "scurvy telemarrrketers"

Tonight, if we get one of those calls...

TMKTR: Is __ at home?

Me: No one 'ere by that name. Who be callin?

TMKTR: Well, would you be interested...

Me: Lissen, laddie, I'm sittin 'ere with a bunch of me mates, a few kegs, and some muskets. We're looking for pillage and plunder. And we've got caller id - and a reverse telephone directory. I suggest you abandon ship before the boarding party arrives.

TMKTR: "click"

[Evil]

Arr! I be sittin' in a cardboard box, waitin' for me Cap'n to sail us on to new shores. Avast! Blast! and rot his guts! It be days now since he abandoned ship and got himself ashore in the land of the Vikings. May it be that he be lost? Lying at the bottom of Davy Jone's locker, per'aps? Or holed up in some den of iniquity like yon Radisson City Center?

The lyin' dog!

Scurvy bloody leech infested bilge rat!

And here I be waitin' wit me best mate LavaLamp, hopin' that that weasel of a captain gets back to us in time to set sail in the good ship U-Haul afore the tides turn agin' us!

Well, I'll tell ye scabberous dogs what I been up to today.

Firstly, I got up and poured meself a fine cup o' grog. This lasted quite a while and made the next point quite good.

Then I went to class. Aye, class, mates. I found meself in Greek afore I knew what the bloody hell was goin' on, and I gave a rather inspired performance, if I do say so meself. I had an Astronomy quiz (and the grog was still flowin') and then Ancient Egypt (where the facilities were a-callin', but made it out in time).

I then found meself with a quick break wherein I finally ate something (a couple Wheat Thins, nothin' too big lest I start spoutin'), got meself another mug o' grog, and did some work. I had another class, Italian, which was by far the best 50 minutes o' me life. Every single thing that was said was absolutely hilarious, but fer the life o' me, I cannot remember what the hell happened. [Smile]

I then came back home, had a fourth cup o' grog (I get the number by countin' cans, mates), and passed out fer a while. And then I be here.

Ye may be askin' yerselves, be this the end o' the day fer this poor wench? NO! Firstly, I be not a "poor wench," just a sometimes-misguided one. Second, and more important, I got plenty o' lootin' and plunderin' to be doin' yet tonight. I got a goin' away party fer one o' me best friends. She be goin' to England with them scurvy dogs to "study" or so she claims. I be knowin' better, though - she be goin' to plunder her weasly black guts out. And I be sad and jealous, all in one.

So what'll I do? I'll get meself another mug o' grog and drink meself senseless. Or possibly drink meself some sense [Smile]

Avast! Ye'd better be talkin' some right pirate talk, else I'll be comin' after ye!

Yers in lots o' grog,

Bloody Mary Flint

Edit for spelling/coherency, so ye lubbers can make heads and tails o' me writin'.
