It seems all my threads and posts end up being very me-focused. I wonder why. I wonder if this is the side of me Hatrack brings out or if, in general, I'm a very narcissistic person. Or perhaps this is a shadow side to me, bursting out at Hatrack because I tend to be the "counselor" in many social situations.

It would be hard to do so without relating it to myself. You are cool, odouls, because you posted on my narcissism thread.

This is just a thought, it could be wrong, or not. Nor is it intended to be insulting.[/disclaimer]
You post these things here because you don't feel that you can talk about them in RL (for some unknown reason).

I don't mind talking about you, Jenny, as long as you throw me a bone every once in a while and post more boot pictures.

Frameshifter: I do talk about these things, but not as honestly. I tend to be a very passionate person, but Hatrack is like a mirror sometimes. I usually don't like what I see. However, it keeps me humble and honest. So I see it as therapy.

Jenny, I have to say that I haven't noticed this tendency. There are certain people who have certain predictable tendencies -- msquared will invite anyone at all to his house for brats, given the slighest provocation; Grandma Evie will find some reason to mention that she is the AUTHOR of a BOOK; I'll say something snarky anytime someone sweepingly insults the Democrats -- but I don't tend to associate your posts with egregious self-promotion.

Odd. Unlike Tom, I do have a sense of you being self-absorbed -- while I can't provide any direct evidence of it, it's just an impression I've gotten over the past couple years. The only example that really stands out in my mind is the "It's so hard to be pretty" thread, though, so maybe my impression lacks substance.
Of course, I tend to run on the narcs myself -- so much so that I believe the cops are planning a sting on me -- so this is coming from a fellow Narcs Anonymous member.
Hi, my name is Eddie, and I'm narcissistic. And pretty. And did I mention smart? God, I have a sweet ass. Y'know, one day, I did a thing, and I looked so great doing it that I did it again and again and again, before retiring home to my closet shrine dedicated to myself. Though I am kinda annoyed that all those pictures of myself block my view of my reflection in the mirrors I have in there. Did I mention how sweet my ass is?

Ooh, ooh! What do I always do?
(Jenny - woman, very few have the talent to so unabashedly turn all conversations into being about them than I do. And Lalo is even worse than I am.)

I skimmed all the other posts, but didn't really see anything of interest because none of them mentioned me. I know I'm the coolest because when I walk into a room, everyone looks my way. I was over in Hong Kong this one time and had just come out of a store and this little kid sees me and just starts screaming and crying as his mother escorts him away. It was a little like Beatle-mania. I think I understand how rockstars feel. People are just lucky I don't put out an album, write a book, or perform some major athletic feat. Then their lives would just be devoted to talking about me. I don't do these things not because I don't wish to distract them from other things, (really, who cares what they want?), but because it would limit the freedoms I have to be mobbed by adoring fans everywhere I went. I just relax, secure in the knowledge that everyone would acknowledge how great I was if I tried to make them aware of it.
But enough about me talking about me. Why don't you talk about me.

Tom, if you're going to slam someone, at least spell their name correctly.
Jenny, I don't see you as being narcissistic or self-promoting.
There are others around here who are -- but they already think this song-- err, thread-- is about them. So I won't mention any names. (we REALLY need an  smilie!)

Jenny, you do begin a lot of threads with reflection on a personal situation. But you phrase your posts in a way that invites discussion of the broader issue. There's been good discussion on some of your threads because they aren't exclusively "me-focused" even when they're "me-inspired."
Some people use news links to bring up discussion topics, others use personal stories. I don't see one as automatically more valid than the other.

I am about to post a thread about my life. Does that make me narcissistic? Not so much. Does it make me a little self-absorbed? Probably. I have to live in this personality, I'm pretty interested in finding out how it works. Hatrack is a good place to air my dirty laundry (so to speak), because I have met very few of you in real life, and I trust most of you to be honest with your replies.
Jenny, I haven't noticed a preponderance of self-absorption in your threads. Even when they are about you and your life, they cause discussion in a more general way (as someone else brilliant upthread noticed).
Besides, why aren't we talking about Ralphie's magnificent rack and rapier wit? Silly threadenizens!

Jexx, you are totally missing the point of this thread. We aren't here to talk about Ralphie (she promotes herself enough without your help) or anyone else, we're here to talk about ourselves and how great we are.
By the way, I noticed all of you misspelled my name J-e-n-n-y. It's J-O-n-n-y, dammit! Your lack of attention to detail has made me a little sad. I think I need a hug.

Irami, do you happen to know the title to that thread? I looked up "me so pretty" and got bupkus.

Going back through it, I'm wondering why I was using the infernally stupid "yer" rather than "your" or "you're." I blame my Ahmiraken ejukashun.
