OSC's "Reviews Everything" article is a total waste of time. Who cares what he thinks!? Why does he hate Jack Black and Will Ferrel so much? Instead of babbling on about what he hates he could be writing the final Bean book, and I could stop waiting for it! We don't need any more movie/food/music reviewers.

Would you go up to someone and say in person? Why on EARTH would you think that's appropriate?

I personally love his review columns. I don't agree with everything but I have discovered a great number of excellent books, movies, music and such from them.
"Yes, Mr. Card, thank you for inviting me over. Now, if you don't mind, I'll be in your living room pooping on the rug."

Orange County is one of my favorite movies of all time. School of Rock deserves all the Academy Awards The Lord of the Rings (snore) got. Jack Black is a god! Tenacious D will rule the world!

I know some people think it's funny, but it's stuff like THIS that makes Kristine say stuff like this: >>"We are WAY jazzed about this at the Card house. So congrates Bob and Dana. Things like this make Hatrack worthwhile -- a real community."<<
Whether we think it's funny or not, the hosts don't think it's funny, and every little bit of crap in their living room makes maintaining Hatrack a little less worth it.
Welcome to Hatrack. Please stay, and say something funny or worthwhile.

All my jokes tend to be the very opposite of funny but I do try not to offend with any thing more than the awfulness of my jokes. Attacking a person we all respect seems more thoughtless than humorous.

A sure way to make friends is to start as many gay marriage threads as possible. Oh, and Ender's Game movie threads too.

Hey Matt (that is, if you ARE Matt Sullivan). I checked out your WEB site. Very cool.
By the way, Hatrack is not your average internet forum. Many folks around here have been members for years, and have had plenty of chances to meet and stuff. We've seen your initial post soooo many times that it's hard to take it seriously.
And I have to say I find the Morwomans much weirder than the Mormans.

For future reference, dude, there ARE places for badly spelled, nearly incoherent screeds against your favorite author. This AIN'T one of them. The people here are as diverse in opinion as any group I've met, but one thing is agreed upon: we share a deep respect for our hosts. This doesn't mean we don't voice disagreeing opinions (see this link, for instance. It means that when we do disagree, we do it in a civilized manner.
There is a reason this is my favorite forum on the 'net. It is because everyone realizes that it is much more effective if you make a point in a reasonable, rational manner rather than spouting off your rage, as so many posters do on other forums.
The Cards are real people. They visit this forum a lot, and try to be as much a part of this community as they can. I've learned a lot about OSC by reading his "total waste of time" articles. I believe that as you get to know more about the author it will give you more of an appreciation of his works. Also, with every thing he writes, including his weekly newspaper columns, he increases his abilities as a teller of great stories. It is precisely BECAUSE he doesn't sit every day cooped up in his office, relentlessly churning out page after page in order to satisfy his selfish fans, that his finished product is so good.
Just thought I'd add my two cents.

Hey, Matt Sullivan was raised by parrots in the Amazon. What a strange coincidence! Weren't we just talking about monkeys?

Well, in answer to your original question, I think I read somewhere that OSC was getting sci-fi burnout and reviewing other stuff helps keep him from just having the next book begin with Bean dying. Oh, wait...

I also heard somewhere that Card knew about 9/11 and did nothing to prevent it. I guess he wanted to create a market for this "War Watch" column he was planning.
