Ladies and gentlemen, I bring to you... The Awesome.

I haven't even read the original comic, and this trailer makes me NEED to see this film.

Impressive. Very stylish (in a good way).

Taal is interested.... that means I will definately see this. [Big Grin]

Not to mention Bruce Willis, in a stylishly done movie with elements that remind me of Dick Tracy... I will see this.

I just, without relation to this thread, saw that trailer a few minutes ago beleive it or not. I'm a bit concerned about the level of violence and sexual exhibition, but if the movies anything like the trailer it looks groundbreaking(ly awesome [Smile] ).

I saw the 7 minute trailer last week, and from how it looked, concerns about violence and sexual content are well founded. Actually, the trailer had nudity in it, which was somewhat shocking in itself (I believe it was a German trailer, which made it less shocking). If anyone's interested, you can find that trailer at the official site I believe.

But yes, this move does look all around cool. I will be seeing it opening day most likely.

I wouldn't mind checking out that link for the trailer, if you can find it.

Thanks for offering!

If it's based on a comic, it's almost guaranteed hubby will buy it. I'm still waiting for the trailer to load. . .

It's not only based on a comic, it's nearly scene-for-scene faithful to a comic. Frank Miller, the comic's creator, tends to write/draw in a theatrical way anyway and director Robert Rodriquez stuck to it doggedly.

Word is that Miller didn't want to allow any of his properties to be filmed. Rodriquez went ahead and adapted one of his Sin City short stories to film anyway, with Josh Hartnett and Marley Shelton acting, as essentially a demo tape. If Miller liked it, Rodriquez would use that as the first 10 minutes of the full movie and keep going. If not, Miller had his own short film for the heck of it.

Miller loved it. So did every other actor who saw it -- Rodriquez showed it to actors he wanted to cast and every one of them jumped at it.

Enjoy.

Where is the heart? It seems like some strange fetish porn.

I wish they made Grayson instead.

You have to look hard to find the heart in Sin City. But it's there. In the way the prostitutes are a family, the way that people still care about one another, even in that hell hole. Miho is the heart in Sin City. [Big Grin] OK, now I'm just being dorky.

But that actress is perfect for Miho... Weirdly, even though all those guys are WAY too attractive to be Frank Miller characters, it works. And the lighting, and the awesome... and... (faints) So.....cool...

Seen it, and though it was good, there was way too much information for it to be an effective trailer. I'm impressed with the concept, though I don't think it will ever be filmed.

So, uhh. Looks like people are taking a hint from the "Sky Captain" book of special effects now. I wonder how many times we're going to see movies like this (This one is likely going to be skipped by me because of the nudity/violence)

I don't think it was so much the release of "Sky Captain" as it was the advent of the kind of technology it would take to make the movie look exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) like the comic.

Sky Captain book of special effects? Not so much.

This was shot almost frame by frame according to the comic book, it seems. The 7 minute trailer you skipped [edit: sorry, misread of your post on my part, you're skipping the movie, not the trailer] flitted back and forth between comic drawings and live scenes, showing just how faithful the film was staying to the original material.

Sin City was a dark comic, with brutal, sexual and violent characters, and was done in black and white. Then again, if you don't like that sort of comic, then you're not going to like this movie.

Now they just need to make V for Vendetta and Watchmen.

Rodriguez plans on making the whole run of Sin City comics into films... (squees) This could open the door, too. [Smile]

Edit: That is, for something like Watchmen to be movified.

This gives me hope that they could do the original Wolverine comic mini-series as a movie, changing nothing.

I agree. That would be very easy to make and would be very interesting as there haven't been that many movies set in 'modern' Japan.

Of course, given that Lady Deathstrike is now dead, and Wolverine gave no recognition that he knew her, there would have to be some loss of continuity somewhere.

p.s. I've always disliked Lady Deathstrike and consider her a freaking abominable ripoff of the mini-series.

Lady Deathstrike was in that series? Was she Yukio? Or even Mariko? I didn't know she was ever in the series as anyone other than Deathstrike.

I read somewhere that they were indeed going ahead with the Wolvering spinoff, detailing his travels in Japan and such.

Maybe that's just rumor, though.

EDIT: Wait, are you talking about the wolverine thing or Sin City? Because I didn't know Miller did anything with Wolverine.

Miller was involved in the Wolverine miniseries that had Wolverine travelling to Japan to see Mariko, getting involved with Yukio, and fighting the Hand and Mariko's father.

It's a great story, very tight. I'm not sure how much input Miller had into the story, but it's the series that took Wolverine beyond the psycho-killer charicature.

I believe Lady Deathstrike is Mariko, the woman that he married.

Cool. Did not know that.

I suppose they can just ignore that for the continuity aspect, considering they changed Stryker from Reverand to a government spook.

Well, and let's not forget that Elektra is coming out quite soon. [Smile]

Just looking at the imdb cast of characters for Elektra, it's very interesting, to me. They're clearly not rewriting Miller's take on it, but rather glomming many characters from Daredevil into the movie. Though, perhaps they did this in the comic book main series, too. I'm particularly looking forward to seeing what they do with Typhoid Mary....
