Unofficially here and more officially here.

I'm sad. Very much so, in fact. Though I am finding Stargate a more-than-alright alternative, if not better...

Never could get into it. At least there's Battlestar Galactica now.

After bitching over shows cancelled before their time, I really had no problems with this one.

I tried, I really tried watching the first season. I had high hopes. I loved the idea of getting back to the beginning of Starfleet and showing the less-than-pretty technology. I missed a lot of the Deep Space Nine and Voyager series so I was losing track of what happened when in the future episodes. I'm a huge Scott Bakula fan. And the original sound effects were back!

After about four episodes the level of gratuitous Vulcan nudity was getting to me. By the sixth episode I noticed that I still couldn't tell some of the crewmen apart and didn't really care to learn. And I was having way too many "Why don't they just...?" moments.

I'm sure it had some great moments, some excellent plotlines. It just didn't work for me.

I never really liked it. I could not get into it. Also the technology seemed too advanced compared to the original. (I admit, I only saw one episode.)

The first season . . . had its moments. Although it also kept having (starting with the very first episode) a fair number of "NO!!! They can't DO that! That's inconsistent with <insert some canonical issue here>! [Mad] " moments too. [Razz]

The second season was worse, and by the time the second season was over, I had stopped watching. I've caught the occasional 20 minutes or so since then, and been completely unimpressed.

Shame, too, because I liked the characters initially.

My mom still likes that show, she'll be sad it's cancelled. Though I admit I think she was partially just watching it for the Bakula action.

Oh, man... My mom and I agree on many things. Scott Bakula is one of them.

This last season has been excellent (well, excepting the wrapup they had to do quickly from the previous season with the "Nazi aliens").

Its too bad that when they brought on some real talent who put it back into classic star trek form it was too late to save.

Holy cow! I didn't even know this show was still on!!! (Though isn't it interesting that the original lasted three years and going back to basics lasted three years? Yet the further into the future they went with the franchise the longer the series lasted?)

I've been watching DS9 episodes on DVD lately (thank you Netflix!) and I gotta say, the drop in quality from the Trek of the mid-90s to the Trek of today is staggering. Honestly, it's about time. Maybe in a few years, after the franchise has had time to rest a bit, someone with some vision will resurrect Star Trek, but for now it's probably better to just let it die.

I think their dumb idea of moving the show to friday night didn't help much for ratings.

I liked Enterprise and really wanted to get into it as much as my previous Star Treks -- however here it was always scheduled for Wednesday nights and Sunday nights, both of which are really busy church nights for us -- so most times I never got to see it. Sometimes we would have extended family tape it for us, but that didn't always happen.

I wish it had been in any other time slot.

A day that will live in infamy for Star Trek fans for a long time.

I do agree that moving it to Friday was about the dumbest idea since prohibition. I think that was their way of making sure if got canceled since that put it up against the very well rated Stargate

Maybe they've learned their lesson and when/if star trek ever comes back

THERE WILL BE NO FREAKING TIME TRAVEL EPISODES!

enterprise was all about the time travel and that's a big thing that caused me not to watch it... on top of the cookie cutter plots.

Star trek seems incapable of doing time travel well.

Actually, there are a few exceptions, but in general, that's true.

That's what turned me off to the show as well. I haven't seen anything for a couple of seasons.

You must not have seen the 30th anniversary episodes that they did. DS9 did an excellent episode with the Trouble with Tribbbles flashback. Not to mention the whole “Those are Klingons?” line.

Yes Jay, the rare time travel episode is good, but not when every other episode is time travel or ::COUGH:: Voyager that solved their entire problem with time travel.

And Enterprise was based around "The Temporal Cold War"

Oh yay. An idea that lets them time travel whenever they feel like it.

If you want a time travel show, watch Doctor Who.

This season of Enterprise - without the Xindi and the time-traveling Ensign Daniels - is actually really good. Except that whole Soong storyline, which was only cool because the guy who played Paul Atreides on the SciFi Dune miniseries a couple years ago was in it.

They brought in a new writer for the current season, and the shows have been a lot better (though he had to dig the cliffhanger episode out of the pit, so I don't count the season opener) this year. I watched the 1st season, wasn't as interested in the last two, but I have enjoyed the 4th season.

Maybe if this writer had started the series, it wouldn't have bombed so much. I must admit I'm disappopinted, since I always enjoy watching trek shows, but I agree that a break from Star Trek might be good for it. Maybe after Rick Berman and Brannon Braga are finally gone [Grumble]

BTW, they have talked about an 11th ST movie that would be different from all the others, without any previous crews. If it came to fruition, it would be broader, I'm guessing not so much focused on one ship, but on maybe the whole federation or something like that. Of course, maybe it will be more something like this.

I think this idea killed the show for me. Evil Alien Nazi's. Who came up with that crap?

Who came up with evil alien Nazis?

John Meredyth Lucas, in the TOS episode "Patterns of Force," aired in 1968.

It's been repeated several times since, both in VOY and ENT.

I saw the Trouble with Tribbles episode. While it was fun to watch, I had a headache for days from how violently my eyes kept rolling back into my head. [Roll Eyes]

My reaction to this was also "Oh is that still on?" I watched most of the 1st season. The 2nd season I started to watch also, but I got the Babylon 5 DVD's at that time and would watch them, then try to switch to Enterprise.. . and Enterprise was just. so. bad. in comparison that I didn't watch the rest of season 2.

I read about "big changes" for Season 3 with the Xindi being added plus a story arc to last over "at least 10 episodes." Well. . . I got 2 or 3 eps into that and decided it was no different than before, jsut a little more hyped. I've not seen the show since.

So, I'm almost tempted to say "Good riddance," but. . I don't care enough to actually say that. And that makes me kinda sad, actually. I liked watching TOS with my dad back in "the day," and I loved TNG. DS9 was always on a weird time slot for me, but I caught most of season 4 and 5, at least, and I really enjoyed that. voyager I liked well enough in the later seasons, but I didn't bother to watch most of season 7 until the end when I wanted to see how they got home. . and was very disappointed. I aslo didn't care for the last 2 movies either.

As far as I'm concerned, the Star Trek vein has been mined out. The well is dry. Time to let it go.

I'm not sad, because it was wrong from the very beginning. And they made a very good episode (Similitude) and it was kind of like the saviour for the series. But still the series, although saved, had to die.

R.I.P
