Okay, I'm sick and tired of hearing singers, songwriters, movie makers, etc. saying that they made this particular piece of art because, "It's a message that people need to hear."
My response...
WE'VE HEARD IT YOU FREAKING MORONS!!! Whatever message you have to say has already been stated time and time again, not only in song, book, movie, and even puppet show form, but also in any other form of media I can possibly think of. Do you honestly think you're going to be able to convince me that your version of the "message" is any different from every other version out there??? It's not.
For those of you thinking I'm just talking about the elitist stuff that I don't agree with, I'm not. I am completely fed up with every facet of the political bickering going on right now. Every bit of it gets on my nerves. Why am I mentioning this? Well, you see, I was mini-golfing the other night and heard a country song called, "I made it to Arlington." Now, I'm a pretty patriotic guy. I fully support the troops in Iraq, I agree with our reasons for being there (Not going into it). But that song REALLY REALLY bothered me when I heard it. And not just because I was mini-golfing with my best friend and his wife the night before he was schedule to fly back to Iraq for the last 6 months of his tour. I think it bothered me just because it made it seem like the goal of soldiers is to be great heros and win medals and crap, and I know that is a load of bull. Now, that song just bothered me...Then I got sick of the politicization of the media about the time I was flipping channels and saw Eminem talking about his newest song (don't remember the name. Got pissed and blocked it out entirely). It was basically the other side of the argument, that all government is evil and we should go rush the capital and force people to take a certain point of view, or something like that...Like I said. I blocked it out. Aparently his message is totally revolutionary or something, and he just HAD to get it out there for the public to buy, oops, I mean hear. That really bothered me.
So now, all I want to say to all the media is that the only affect they are having on me now is the same as the affect that two chihuahuas barking at each other from across the neighborhood have. All I want is for these stupid people to SHUT UP LET ME HAVE SOME PEACE AND QUIET!!!

Writing music (or creating any other art) necessarily involves the personal worldview of the artist. That's how art works. Most worldviews include a political stance of some sort, especially these days when the politics are so controversial in areas. Many artists might not be trying to convert the public but might express personal views on political issues in their songs simply because the easiest topics to write about are the ones for which they have a strong feeling one way or another. It just so happens that some have a bigger fan base than others to which to state their opinion. Yes, some like Eminem may do it purposely to try and change public opinion, but they likely do realize you've heard the message before; they're just trying to make it stronger. In their opinion, you may have *heard* it but you obviously didn't *listen*, so they're trying to explain it again to you in a different way in the hopes that one of these times it'll work.
As for how the media politicizes everything, it's no different than the rest of world in my opinion. Really, people are trying to get their own political message across to others all the time - discussions in pubs, arguments on forums, volunteer work for charities - and most of us probably feel like our sides of the arguments we have are things others need to hear, else why would we bother? The only difference is that we lack the means to mass-market our opinions.

People dislike artists with political views becouse the said artists views are different from their own. Although OSC and I disagree on almost every issue, I do not qoustion his right to express his views.

You're right, that Jonathan Swift guy needs to stop writing such transparent political satire. Keep it to yourself, hippy! Ditto George Orwell, Ray Bradbury, Lewis Carroll, Mark Twain... oh, and Aristophanes, he could barely write anything that wasn't poking fun of politics, gender rights, and local issues. You just know he's one of the elite leftist entertainment clique.
As long as there has been expression, there has been commentary. Some hidden, some blatant, some well-written/performed, most not.

I'm sick of politics on the tv and on the internet, too. In fact, the only medium where people should be allowed to express political views is in print. Black ink on white pages.

The thing is, the only thing that makes entertainment anything more than pornography is political involvement. If it just exists to pleasure you with flashing lights, then it's just another stimulant. Complaining about politically involved entertainment is like complaining about candy because they put vitamins in it.

I don't want vitamins in my candy! And I do want to be pleasured with flashing lights! But oddly enough, I don't mind a bit of politics in my music, as long as the music's good.

I don't mind politics in the netertainment, as long as the artist doesn't think they are somehow being profound when, usually, they aren't.

Art can be art when there is no political message, but the only time it really gets to me is when the political message is the point or if it gets in the way of the art.
