It was 92 degrees F here in Fresno yesterday. Sunny, bright, and dry.
The forecast for today is 74 F and windy, with possible showers in the afternoon. At 10 am, it has already been sprinkling and the wind is moaning in the eaves.
Maybe the trees will get the message and start turning now - they've only barely started now.

I would have actually enjoyed 92 degree weather, but in San Diego it was 101 yesterday.
My question is, who'll START the rain. (Then again the famous Miramar Air Show is today- clear skies are good...Blue Angels are incredible!)

Here in Ithaca, it's not all that unusual to have weeks with both sunny, dry 75 degree days, and days in the 20s with six inches of snow. Heck, we even had a freak snowstorm during May graduation one year! Posts: 1681 | Registered: Jun 2004

The high is supposed to be 85 here in Richardson today, which isn't horribly high but it's too hot for mid-October. Particularly if you have no A/C. Last night around 10PM it was 80 outside. Not a comfortable night, let me tell you.
EDIT: I'm not in California, but I thought it was relevant anyways. Stupid heat.

I'm jealous KQ. I love the Huntington. Used to go their on a fairly regular basis. My favorite part (since you have to be a scholar to use the library) is the art gallery, and my favorite painting there is "Sara Siddons as the Tragic Muse". If you look really close when watching "All About Eve", there's a small reproduction on the wall going up the stairs where Bette Davis tells everyone it's going to be a bumpy night.
And Salah...101 in San Diego? I'm guessing you were having east wind (aka the Santa Anas). It's the time of year for it. I miss the east wind. Really. Despite the fires that tend to come with them sometimes.

I've heard that in California, all the leaves are brown and the sky is gray. At least that's what The Mamas and the Papas tell me.

Actually in most of the state it would be much more appropriate if the line was, all the hills are brown and the sky is gray.
Then again, I like California's brown hills. I grew up with them, and I guess I've sort of gotten the idea from my experience that it's the way they're supposed to be. Also, along the coast at least, the gray skies referred to are more common than one might expect.

Well, yeah, I like that, too. A lot. But I have a sort of fascination with painting and drawing because I am so not gifted in any sort of graphic arts that I stand amazed that anyone can do that.

The thunder and heavy rain started last night, and are still going. Once a thunderstorm gets in this valley, it takes quite a while before it decides to leave.

*bummed* With the rain, the first night of Succos will be a bit of a pain. As well as meaning we won't be putting up most of the decorations today -- we'll wait until sometime Thursday, probably. Assuming the rain has stopped . . .

It's actually not that big a deal, any night but the first. Rain (like unbearable heat, and other conditions that would make it very uncomfortable to eat in the succah) just means you eat inside. Unfortunate, but not a big thing.

It's finally getting to just the right temperatures. I hate it when it's 35 in the morning at 60 during the day, makes it hard to dress appropriately, but that'll only last until November, then we get that fantastic bite to the air, just cold enough to smell the sweet aroma of winter, not too cold to freeze your trachea.
And then the snow comes. Snow, sweet and freshly fallen, gracing us with that soothing crunch beneath our boots. Snow blanketing the trees, turning the streets into winter landscape portraits. Snow piled high, challenging children to become kings and queens of small snowy hills. Snow pounding against the windows as we curl up with a good book, a warm blanket and a hot cup of chocolate.........

It's not too bad here in the Valley today, just 76 F here in Fresno at just past 2:30 in the afternoon. It's mostly cloudy, and I hear we might get some rain tonight or tomorrow.

It has been dark, cloudy and rainy all day long here in Las Vegas. This is so rare, it becomes quite noteworthy. I quite like it, except that with any sizeable amount of rain somebody in the valley is sure to get flooded. Our ground refuses to soak up any water.
I bet this kind of weather really ticks off the tourists. At least, those that notice there's anything going on beyond the casino floor. It's not exactly a day for golfing.

I don't know, it's not really that big a deal where I live. Plows come out and push it away on the side streets, salt trucks kill it on the major roads. It's all gone by morning.

Right now a guy I went to "A" school with is in Navy SEAL training, entering his 36th hour of hell week. Air Temp: 59 degrees and raining, Water Temp: 64 degrees (You surfers and swimmers out there know just how cold 64 degree water actually is); I don't think he's loving California weather.
