When you've had a bad day, or you need some sort of support, what sort of comfort food do you eat? Mine involves either cheese or potatoes or both, but a mocha shake of some sort does good too (so cheesefries and coffee mocha shake from steak n shake is absoluely perfect)

Chocolate chip cookies.... with not too many chocolate chips. Some fruit... preferably grapes, blueberries or strawberries.

Chicken fried steak and mashed potatos (with skins) and a Biscuit. And if it's been a really bad day, tack on a Shiner Bock and pecan pie to that.

On a more realistic note, dark chocolate covered macadamia nuts are a close close second,

I don't really have any snack foods that work as comfort food for me. Homemade spaghetti and meatballs though is always comforting to me.

Heh, and here I thought one of the defining characteristics of comfort food was that it had to be something that would do great harm should you partake in it daily.

I said fries, cheese, and shakes, those are all artery clogging. Some people just don't know what comforts them.

Roast beef, mashed potatoes, cooked carrots, and lots of gravy.

And when I can't get that, a really good soup: chicken noodle (with lots of veggies), beef stew, and cream of potato are my favorites. Preferably with a fresh roll.

My mom's tacos (when I'm at home). We have them every friday and they're a family staple. Other than that though? I would have to say baked potatoes. MMmmm

Pot pie. Followed by pie for dessert. I adore custardy, creamy textures. I also love pastry crust. So pizza, puddings, pie fillings, ice cream, cheese - all comforting. My comfort foods are pretty classic it seems.

Speaking of which, I've been on a chocolate Jell-O pudding craze lately. I need to pick up some more. And some string cheese. [Smile]

I was just sitting here being totally stressed out and reading this thread and wondering what food it would take to destress me, when my coworker handed me a slice of mango cheesecake.

It wouldn't have been on my list, but it definitely worked. MMMMMmmmmmmm....

A nice bowl of chicken soup with a tender light matzah ball. That's a world of comfort right there!

Oh, and ice cream. Just not after the chicken soup. >_<

I can't have ANY of my previous comfort foods now that I'm trying to limit my carbohydrate intake.

Previously my most common comfort food was ice cream. Especially right before bedtime.

Secondary would probably have been something like potatoe chips, or toast with peanut butter on it. Or if I'm out and about - it's Sonic's tater tots w/cheese...

Farmgirl, could you now have peanut butter with apples? That's what my mom does, and it's comforting, not the same as toast, but better than nothing (she uses an all natural peanut butter so it's just peanuts a teensy bit of salt, and apples).

I haven't added a lot of fruit back into my diet yet, because the natural fruit sugars really make me crave other sugars (like candy and such). I have a hard time with "moderation".

But I sure miss bananas. They are my favorite fruit.

Maybe I will try the apples with peanut butter.

2 Big Macs. Something about the greasy questional cow patty lathered with special sauce appeals to me in a way I can't describe. And it has to be 2 because I need to be completely full but not bloated when its over with.

Pringles are good too.

I love cinnamon buns with carmel rather than frosting. But since I don't make them often anything freshly baked is wonderful.

I also love hot chocolate--thick and rich. YUM! I think I might need some right now, it's chilly here today.

Ah, youth. I can recall when 2 Big Macs would have left me feeling full but unbloated. I bet you can eat a whole pizza, too, right?

Homemade mashed potatoes are good, for me. Hot chocolate, that's always good.

Last night I made myself a chef salad for dinner, lettuce, bacon, cheese, boiled egg, croutons and dressing. Fattening, but it tasted great!

I don't gravitate to sweets for comfort food, it needs to be something filling and usually something warm. A good chicken pot pie, or even some chicken soup works.

Depends on the size of the pizza ... err .. actually, nevermind, no it doesn't. Yeah, if I'm hungry, I can eat a whole pizza. I'd need a 2 liter of Dr. Pepper to wash it down.

Though that doesn't really comfort me a great deal. That's just fun. And tasty. And ... mmm ... I'm gonna go get me some pizza!
