I hope this hasn't been posted already . Google has just released Google Trends which allows you to see how many people are searching for certain terms. It also organizes results by city, region, and language.
For example, Most people who searched for "Orson Scott Card" were in Salt Lake City and Raleigh NC. The top countries for "Orson Scott Card" were the United States, Canada, Israel, Poland. Searches for "Orson Scott Card" also have spiked at certain times.
Searches for "Wikipedia" has been continuously increasing over the past few years.
Searches for "Google" spiked when Google released "Google Talk".

Not only is it fun, but I can see how it is potentially useful.
For instance, has anyone wondered how long Nintendo had been planning on changing its system name to "Wii"? Type it in, and I think we can reasonably estimate that they thought up the idea in September of 2005.

Helsinki is also fond of the work of Nobuo Uematsu (composer for the Final Fantasy games, amongst others).

Canada, USA and Austria are the top three regions for '06 for the Buffalo Sabres. I guess Thomas Vanek is pretty popular over there.

The spike in searches in March 2005 for "Orson Scott Card" was probably caused by the release of Shadow of the Giant.

8 of the top 10 searchers for "poutine" were Canadian cities. The other two were Nice and Paris, at #6 and #9, respectively. Why would someone in Quebec City (#1) google "poutine" so much? Don't they already know about it?

I honestly don't get the fascination.
Haven't people ever heard of a bowl? Maybe fondu? Why the heck do you want it in a fountain? Nothing says contamination to me more than constant recirculation and plenty of spit-friendly surface area. Eew.

Auckland, New Zealand has been searching for Tupac Shakur more than anyone else, and by a decent margin (though #2 is boring old LA).
This could be the key to all mysteries! What have the Kiwis learned about Pac's whereabouts!?
Edit - and Lima, Peru is #1 for just "Tupac," and by an even larger margin! AIIEE, we're falling behind in the search for Pac!

This is my spelling error pet peeve, and it just irks me that there's actually a point where more people searched "definately" than "definitely."

There's a sharp, SHARP spike in the number of people who look up Tax Fraud around April.
Edit: Heh, look up Diet Plans. You see a HUGE HUGE spike at the beginning of every year then it drops way off. New Years Resolution anyone?

There's a huge spike around February/March of 2004. I can't figure out why. I pored through the site during that era, and the only thing that stood out was their Ender's Game comic
