I left Walmart tonight, snowed in supplies in hand and noticed for about the fifth time that I had no change to give the bell ringer. I realized that the reason why is that I always use my check card these days as I have for a few years.

So how many other people have found the same thing to be the case? Most people I know use the ATM card at Walmart so how much less change is going into the pot? I go three time a week so if I would have dropped in 50 cents each trip for eight weeks I need to make up a twelve dollar deposit before Christmas. I wonder if it is getting less and less profitable to ring a bell in a measurable way as a result of this trend? Anybody have the figures?

Perhaps the lack of change is made up for by those people who drop in a dollar bill instead?

A dollar is change though isn't it? I carry emergency twenties and maybe a five if I have been through a drive through recently. Who has ones?
