I admit I've never met a mean pit. All my friends who have them say they're real sweethearts, and that agrees with my experience.

I don't know the statistics, but instinctively, I would expect small dogs to bite more than large due to training. I recently dogsat for a big dog and the rules were much stricter than I am with my dog. My friend said that such a big dog could do a lot of damage so they had to really stick with the training. We own a little dog and so let a lot of stuff go (of course, it also helps that ours is the most submissive dog ever). When we went to training classes, there were almost no other small dogs.
I probably would not get a big dog because they are just more work and can hypothetically do more damage, but my dog prejudice is chihuhuas. They are yippy and obnoxious and bitey (though I think this is mostly cause their owners figure what harm can they do).
