My mom's house caught on fire this morning (8-17) after she left for work. The smoke woke my sister up and she got everyone out in time. It started in my mom's upstairs bedroom, caved in the roof, but luckily got stopped there by the firefighters, so all the expensive stuff downstairs is safe (besides smoke damage)--but everything in my mom's room is toast. The only casualty is our ferret, Max, who was stuck in my mom's room the whole time. By some miracle, the firefighters found him in his cage, alive, and he made it to the animal hospital at Virginia Tech. He's in an oxygen tank and might make it.
I just moved out of there 3 weeks ago--I'm up in Boston and I wish I could have been there. I knew where the fire extinguisher is kept, but my sister didn't (she was just visiting). My little brother Timmy is starting high school next week and my nephew Daemion is starting pre-school (he's 5). My mom, Timmy, and Daemion all have places to stay tonight. So all in all, everything is O-K. Mom and Daemion have a lot of shopping to do (lost all their clothes), but it's kind of a blessing in disguise, because my mom didn't like that place anyway. She was already looking to move--so this expedites the process.
So, send hatrack love to my mom, bro, and nephew. I know they need it.

Wow. I'm glad everyone's okay (except Max). You really have had a string of bad luck, haven't you?
