I am setting up my old pentium II to run Slackware, The Official Release of Slackware Linux by Patrick Volkerding is an advanced Linux operating system, designed with the twin goals of ease of use and stability as top priorities. Including the latest popular software while retaining a sense of tradition, providing simplicity and ease of use alongside flexibility and power, Slackware brings the best of all worlds to the table.
Currently downloading disc3 from their site and then I shall begin the installation, with my own Linux server I will be able to do stuff, really cool stuff.

Every second you spend on this project, Blayne, is a second you are not spending on your chess program.

Almost certainly you can get the P2 to boot from the CD.
However, if the P3 is already booting from CD, that works. Though I hope you aren't messing with your sister's computer without her permission.
Btw, while slack can be considered an 'advanced' Linux distribution, that doesn't mean it is better. It can be a good learning experience, but if you want learning that's more directly relevant to modern distributions, I'd start with debian, and if you want learning about the nuts and bolts of Linux, I'd start with gentoo (installing from source, naturally).

I cant work on the chess program right now, we have a system that when one person is working on the project only his changes matter, example yestderday was my day and as such my changes are the only ones commited, today is his day, tomorrow will be mine etc, with the exception being I worked on the in check logic while he debugged ValidPath, so right now I am working on my Hamming Code asignment while im waiting for the formatting to finish.

This is why establishing solid boundaries between parts of the code is important. It means you can work on them separately, at the same time.

*chortle* *sigh* That makes me laugh...(he said, knowing exactly how to get a Pentium 2 Computer, that never was capable of CD booting because that didn't really become a standard until the Pentium III, to install Linux off of a CD...) I'm just going to walk over here and feel smug for a while. Thanks, Blayne.

Nu, any luck on this? It would be great if you had a server to host my awesome 483 AUC game on.

The current problem is that when i tried a newer harddrive it said "cannot access the disk" when i used cfdisk, so Im assuming putting in a random hardrive doesnt work with older mobo's, so when I get the chance Im popping the mobo battery and killing the bios password that someone put on.

What does a BIOS password have to do with anything?

the BIOS doesnt recognize the harddrives I am trying to plug in, and the BIOS is password protected, so I need to kill its password to enable the BIOS to recognize the new hard drive.

How's your chess program going? I'd be panicky about it if I were in your situation.
