How's the real estate market on Mars, I'm wondering? I've been looking for a vacation home and I do like looking at a whole mess of red for hours at a time.

Pft, I lurked for like, over a year. And I haven't even been around hardly at all for the past ... long time. But now I have a boring job and I'm back, from outer space ... Or wait, that's you.
Nice to make your acquaintance Mick. What kind of real estate work for you do? My dad is a review real estate appraiser for the Department of Transportation.

Well, prices are sky high (actually a fair clip higher) and they're absolutely skyrocketing at the moment , but hey, I can offer you a HUGE plot of land for your money.

Edit: Strangelove: I'm a field agent right now, as in I investigate different houses and/or plots and try to give a base appraisal.

My family is relocating. On our initial trip to the place we are moving to, we found an area we liked. Since my husband has been down there, we've decided that we want to go ahead and follow through with the purchase of a certain property. The sites are being sold and the builder will build to our specifications.
We had been considering this lot for a few days. Every day the Real Estate Agent in charge of the builders lots would e-mail and call us saying "you'd better hurry, I'd hate for you to miss out on this lot." She apologized a couple of times for appearing to be "high pressure", she just wanted to make sure we got what we wanted.
After discussing it, we agreed it was what we wanted. He told her he'd be there shortly. He left work early, went down there and tried to give her a credit card to hold the property. She wouldn't take it. She said they were only set up to accept checks or cash. He went to the bank and got the money. He went back and she told him that she’d promised the lot to another couple from California. She was waiting to hear from them first, before she could give it to us.
He went nuts. After all of that baiting, we bit, and then she said that. To make a long story short, my husband was there for two hours. She tried to call the Vice President to see how to she should proceed. She couldn’t reach him, so she called the couple in California. They said someone would be there the next day with a check.
She then turned around and told my husband that “money talks”. She said he could have the lot because he was there with the money and they were not.
Is a verbal promise good in Real Estate? We feel played. She was working so hard to get us down there, and then she drops that in our lap. Do you juggle people like that all the time to get the sale? Is that regular practice in Real Estate?
I'm happy we got the lot, yet, I'm very upset with her for dealing with the situation like that.

The entire situation stinks of unprofessionalism (not sure if that's a real word, whatever). The fact that she made no mention of this other party that she was holding the property for is pretty appalling. Does it happen? Yes. Often? Unfortunately, yes. The amount of lawsuit money paid out due to problems like this is absolutely staggering. My first recommendation would be to try and contact these people from California. And no, a verbal promise, with no record, is just that, nothing more. Considering that the way she dealt with you was fairly dishonest, I'm not sure I would trust it.

Wow, less than an hour, and I'm already a "member", as opposed to a "New Member". This place is addictive. I've got to get to work.

Tammy, my opinion of that (though I admit that I know nothing about real estate) is that what she did was completely unethical.

If the builder didn't have the reputation that he does, I don't think we would have went through with it. We've yet to discuss this situation with him personally, it's not quite over yet. I don't trust her, not a bit. Thanks for your thoughts!
Now, back to welcoming you!

First of all, yes it is. Second of all, you said "addictive" and not "addicting"! You are my new FAVORITE PERSON. Granted being my favorite person may not last very long, but hey, it's something.
People who say "addicting" are the new people who say "I seen it." It's like nails on a chalkboard to me.
Well anyway, welcome to the 'rack. What part of the world are you from? If you don't mind my asking.

Sorry, let me change that. What part of this solar system are you from? Have you seen the Mars rovers? Are they much smaller in person?

Little hint: Where I'm from, it's spelled FAVOURITE. . . . Regina. In Canada. To the north, and all that.

It's okay... You can post at one in the morning, just like everyone else...

Welcome! We like Martians here. If you see the authorities coming for you, just dive to the bottom of our murky swimming pool and stay there until they're gone.

I've been to Regina. More times than I can count. Saskatoon, too. And, well, many places all over Saskatchewan and elsewhere in Western Canada. That's where I'm from, but I was lured by a brown boy and now live in Sri Lanka.
