Max decided there was only one escape, one way to survive what was an apparent alien possession of his friends.

He slipped quietly into the Jeffery's Tubes. While the rest were sitting around the table in the mess hall, the hall he had been forced to leave, he took a few moments to pry open the entrance into the Jeffery's Tube, and slip in.

Unfortunately there tube acted as a resonance chamber, amplifying each sound he accidentally made. It did not take long before "they" knew what he had done, and "they" began a search.

What they didn't know, what they couldn't know, was that the tubes, if followed correctly, led to another unsecured hatch near the stairs leading to level 3. Now, while they were preparing to tear apart the tube system to dig him out, he'd make his escape...

In other words, at lunch today we had to yell at our cat, Max. He was up on the table. He jumped off and discovered the Heater vent in our 60 year old house, had fallen. Its fairly large, about 3 feet across. Being the nosy cat that he is...well..we suddenly heard strange noises. Searching the house we discovered the open vent and the missing cat. Before I started tearing ductwork out to dig him out, and after we turned off the furnace because that is not the way to cook an edible cat, we found him at another vent, the one under the stairs.

Some may claim this was just the usual Cat in the ductwork moment. I know that he was playing Star Trek.
