Watching Daily Show and apparantly SC Democratic primary was won by basement dweller who showed up out of no where plunked 10,000$ on the entry fee and barely left his basement? Aside from how totally awesome and hilarious this was how did this happen? The impression I'm getting is that people must have liked the colour green better.

There are some allegations that the electronic voting system was buggy. No clue if the assertions are true, but it would be a reason.

The Democrat he was running against was also not exactly what we would call popular. If nothing else South Carolina has crazy things like this happen from time to time. Although I will admit they aren't normally this off the wall.

What do you have against unemployed, socially inept, left-leaning basement dwellers?

On the subject of late comedy network viewing, Jon Stewart's take on hypocritical Obama from two days ago? Awesome.

I really laughed at Stewart's bit on the US/England World Cup game.

Well, to answer the OP. There are rumors about broken voter machines but believe it or not this sort of happening isn't too difficult to imagine in an open primary state that has a strong voter base that leans one way over the other. South Carolina has a strong history of conservatism. If there is no challenger for the party nomination then people will vote strategically for the member of the other party that they believe their candidate can most easily beat.

If Party X has a strong base and a strong candidate then not everyone in the party needs to vote for him, Party C has multiple candidates. candidate X has a 3% edge over C1, 5% over C2 and 7%over C3. Candidate X is not likely to lose his nomination so a majority of Party X vote for C3 in hopes that he will win.

Its not the first time that Strategic voting has been employed and it isn't the first time that S.Car has had anomalous elections (and fraud) because of it
