Brad R. Torgerson's "Ray of Light" is the lead story in the December 2011 Analog, and, I think, is also the cover illustration.

Wow, thanks all! I am still stunned to have made it to the front cover, and with such a marvelous piece of art from Bob Eggleton. 17 years of bupkus, and now I am the Cover Man on one of the biggest, and in fact oldest, genre publications in the English language. (boggle!)
