First, I'm posting a list of links to topics where blogs are discussed, but then I'd like to have people post links to their own blogs or to blogs that they find particularly helpful to writing (like Miss Snark--first one to post a link to her blog gets three cheers).

I will also post this list in the FAQs section.

Three cheers for extrinsic!

By the way, Miss Snark is no longer posting to her blog, but the archive is there, and it's a blog worth reading.

So, anyone else want to post a link? I know that some of you have already posted links to your blogs (in the topics I posted links to), but I didn't want to take the time to repost them here when I figured you all could post them yourselves.

Please say if the link is to your own blog or to one you recommend, though.

Thanks.

Welllll... I have a blog, but it's all about traditional motherhood, homemaking, raising kids, and the old-fashioned roles of men and women. It has no references to writing, so I don't know that it's all that useful to Hatrack folks.

Anyhoo, here's the address:

www.oldfashionedmotherhood.com

I also do a bit of writing on the the website my husband and I run for homeschoolers. There, I use my full name because my husband and I speak at homeschool events.

www.tjed.org

~LL

P.S.-- Edited to add: My real name is Rachel Keppner.

A Newbie's Guide to Publishing done by J. A. Konrath (mystery writer) and very informative about the business and marketing end: http://jakonrath.blogspot.com/

Agent Kristin Nelson's blog which is very helpful on query letters and matters of agent searching: http://pubrants.blogspot.com/

That's all I can think of at the moment. I'm not big on blogs.

Here are some of the writing blogs I keep up with. (As a side note, if anyone is not yet set up to get blogs via an RSS feed, it is really easy and definitely worth it. It saves me from compulsively going to the blogs to check if they have updated yet.)

General Publishing News Blog:

http://www.mediabistro.com/galleycat/

Agent Blogs:

http://raleva31.livejournal.com/

http://www.nathanbransford.blogspot.com/

http://pubrants.blogspot.com/

http://lyonsliterary.blogspot.com/

http://rejecter.blogspot.com/ (agent assistant)

Editor Blog:

Podcast: (I know it’s not a blog, but I thought it worth mentioning)

WobblyG, it might help if you were to explain to people how to "set up to get blogs via an RSS feed." I am sure there are those who would appreciate the information.

My blog:

I frequent MaryRobinette's blog at:

http://www.maryrobinettekowal.com/category/journal/

A great place to see the development and adventures of a rising star in the speculative fiction markets.

Now I suspect I will be visiting Lullaby Lady's blog(s), too.

Hi, LL!!

Kathleen asked for instructions on setting up a blog reader, so here's a link for setting up with Google reader:

And to add feeds (blogs):

Here's one I put together as an experiment. I found it very hard to attract traffic and gave up, so I haven't updated it in a couple of years.

The idea behind it was this: I wanted to establish a writing presence on the web, and felt that nobody would be interested in yet anothr blog of an aspiring writer and how difficult it is.

Instead, it's a fictional exchange of letters between friends across the Atlantic in a near future wracked by climate change.

Being a blog, the entries are in reverse chronological order.

http://pldey42.typepad.com/atlanticletters/

I sometimes wonder whether to resurrect it. I don't know whether the lack of traffic was to do with the concept, the writing, the weak story lines, getting it noticed by the search engines, or what, so opinions would be appreciated. (I stopped paying the rent on the site, so I doubt that the comment feature works and the e-mail address on the site is wrong.)

Cheers,
Pat

It's great that there is a post about blogs. I recently started one and I'm very proud of it and would love to share it:

http://www.fanwritunit.blogspot.com/

It's a weekly blog about fantasy writing and reading; not so much about my own work but about my passion for the genre of fantasy and fantasy writing.

Thanks for allowing me this shameless plug

Heidi, here are edit post instructions:

Above each of your posts, are three icons. The left-most one is supposed to look like a pencil and paper. If you click on it, you'll be taken to a page that looks like the reply page, but it's the edit page for your post.

Make the changes you want and then click on the "submit now" button below the text box.

I hope that helps.

When Kathleen first posted this thread, I was sad I didn't have a blog to share. I promised myself I'd get a blog and post it here ASAP. Well, it took me awhile, but I've finally got mine up and running--not lots on there about writing yet, but at least I'm writing ON it, right?

I've really enjoyed reading many of the blogs I got from this list. A few are not being posted on, but some of them I read almost every day. Maybe this will be a kick in the pants to the rest of you to start blogging again!

Hey, Unwritten, I tried to post a comment on your blog (about your kids' fear of you embarrassing them by singing along when you hear a favorite song), and it wouldn't post (so far as I know).

So here's my comment:

quote:
Since I firmly believe that it is a mother's job to embarrass her children, I strongly recommend that you go ahead and sing.

A large number of family members went to Disneyland together last month, and there were several times when the background music inspired me to dance, dance, dance as we moved along with the crowds. It was great, and I loved it.

So go for it!

I should mention, however, that my children are old enough now to not be all that embarrassed by me, but as I recall, no one joined me in dancing, and they all kept their distance while I danced.

I will ask the obvious question here Kathleen,

Is that because they be a might embarrassed or the way you dance?

If I ever danced, and if my daughter was prone to embarrassment, the answer to the question would be both. Of course I'm a father not a mother but I think the end result would be the same.

I may have posted my blog here ages ago but in case I haven't, here it is again

http://musingsofle.blogspot.com

And I have no idea about why some people would have problems posting with some blogs. Except perhaps certain blogs don't like certain computers. I had a problem with the forum board WotF used to use. And last time I checked the Official Jim Butcher site has the same forum so I can't post there either. If it's the same people who do a certain blog site, that could be the answer.

Bloggathah

Let me know if you place my link on your blog, and I will be glad to do the same for you.

One recent upgrade I've made: if the writer's name is not evident by the blog name itself, I've added it below the link. I like inventive blog names, but writer name recognition is vastly more important; I appreciate those who have granted me this advantage on their lists, so I want to do the same for everyone else.

Okay if anyone would I could use a touch of help. I just redid my blog and need to know if the words are readable.

Actually, it may look a somewhat familiar turns out I choose the same back ground as Jonathan Northrup. Different colors though and some different stuff on the side.

http://musingsofle.blogspot.com

I may change the coloring anyway and rearrange how the different features are lined up.

But I must say I'm glad I found the counter. I have a lot more clicks than I thought. Some are me of course but still it's over a thousand. Not much compared to some people but I expected it to be under 500.

I spun up my author's site recently, in addition to Suburban (in)Sanity as I mentioned earlier in the thread.

You can find me blogging about and creating writerly content on my author's website.

For those other Mom Writers among us, I talk a lot about writing with, for, and among my children. There might be some interesting stuff to come out of that. They just helped me brainstorm my next novel and I'm geeky excited about starting it (and blogging the process, naturally!)
