According to this vital bit of political news, 65% of Americans think Obama is better prepared than Romney to handle an alien invasion. This may be more significant than you think, because 79% of Americans think the government is lying about UFOs.
But that's not what I want to talk about.
Later in the article I came across this startling statistic. If they had to pick a superhero sidekick to have during an alien invasion, 21% chose The Hulk, 12% Batman and a mere 8% Spider-Man. My first that was "Americans are stupid." Obviously the best choice would be Superman! But then I had an epiphany: limiting the choice to these three (Hulk, Batman, Spider-Man) makes the answer you give revealing.
So who's up for a personality test? Here goes.
Part 1 (gut reaction): Suppose there is an imminent space alien invasion, and you are offered a choice of The Hulk, Batman or Spider-man as a companion. How would your immediate reaction rank the alternatives?
Part 2 (thoughtful reaction): Take a moment to think about the ranking you gave in Part 1. Ask yourself if you've missed any important factors. Now how would you rank the alternatives.
I'll give you my answers, although I won't explain why or what the results mean to avoid biasing the test. After a day or so I'll show you what your answers mean.
Matt's Part 1 Ranking: Batman, Spider-man, Hulk. Matt's Part 2 Ranking: Spider-man, Batman, Hulk.

I've been leery of polling ever since I saw one pollster admit under a reporter's pressure that he got his statistics by quizzing people in a bar near the Washington airport. Ever since then, I think, "What bar did you go into?"
This one really sounds like something you'd ask guys in a bar...

But I assure you, my personality test is every bit as valid as any magazine personality test I've ever seen.
