A friend and I have a radio show, and our theme for next week is songs that make you *sigh and look romantically off in to space... but for the purpas of reading Im just going to say swoon.
Anyway, I could really use some suggestions... for example "drops of jupiter" would be one of these types of songs. what ever your doing you just sort of pause and and feel your heart melt...

I don't really know. I haven't been listening to romantic songs lately, only angry ones. I'm still trying not the think that women are evil. (My girlfriend of 3 years said let's go on a break and started dating somebody immediately after.)

I don't know about swooning, but there's one that always makes me cry. It starts with "I see skies of blue, and clouds of white..." and the chorus is "...and I think to myself, 'what a wonderful world'..." Does anyone know what it's called and who sang it?

Thanks, kyrie !!!!!!!!!!!! You have no idea what you did for me !
I was looking for "Drops of Jupiter", but didn't remember anything but one verse of it, and even that one with so many errors that I couldn't find it on google ! And there it was, out of the blue ! Yey, kyrie !
As for heart-melting songs:
Belinda Carlisle - Half the world Billie Myers - Kiss the rain Bon Jovi - Bed of roses Bruce Springsteen - Secret garden Faith Hill - Breathe Hooverphonics - Mad about you Jon Bon Jovi - Staring at your window with a suitcase in my hand Joshua Kadison - Jessie Midge Ure - Breathe Pat Benatar - We belong Reamonn - Josephine Robbie Williams - She's the one

Pankhaj Udhas: "chand jaisa rang hai tera" - it's a Hindi song, the title means "you look like the moon" and it's beautiful. I'm listening to it now. Another great Hindi song, from a film but I can't remember the film is "So Saal Pehele" - the English version of the lyrics are "A hundred years ago, I was in love with you, I am in love with you today and I will stay in love with you tomorrow." It's a beautiful duet and my aunt and uncle had it as the first dance at their wedding.
I'll second the David Gray, Louis Armstrong, Faith Hill, Billie Myers and Belinda Carlisle choices.
There are a couple of John Denver ones that ridiculously do it for me: My Sweet Lady and Leaving on a Jet Plane.
Head over Feet by Alanis Morrisette. At My Most Beautiful by REM.

Maroon5 has a lot of songs that do that for me. "She Will Be Loved" and "Secret" are two of them. Oooh, I think I'll put that cd on now....

Holy Living Tar. I feel isolated. I don't think I know a single one of the songs listed, and I like melancholy tunes (though I'm afraid that "swooning" is for girls! )

Yup, "What a Wonderful World" will do it every time, but for 2 reasons. My mom used to be involved with a great man, who dressed up as Santa at Christmas and went to children's hospitals and sang Al Jolson and Louis Armstrong renditions. Every time I hear that song, I cry because he was one of the good who died young (54). I was watching "Good Morning, Vietnam" with my ex-husband, who spent two tours in SE Asia, and when that song played, with all the irony of that story, we sat there like to babies, crying out eyes out for our own reasons. Funny, the husband is no longer in the picture, but I still cry when I hear that song, for both of us.
Okay, but on the more romantic side, what about John Denver's "For You" for swooning? It's okay to think John Denver was cool, even in the 90's. "For you alone, only for you." Whoa. If someone sings that to you and means it, it's a match made in Heaven.
Have a wonderful evening everyone.

[in reply to Elizabeth's John Denver Lovin'] He's great. How can you not like him? He's one of the best song writers that ever lived! I have to kick in my vote for "Annie's Song." I love that one!

Well, we took it a little far. Our son, Matthew, is named for the John Denver song. I think there are probably a few dozen of his songs that cause swooning.
He was even more amazing in the later stages of his career. We were part of the Windstar folks right around the time of his death, and it was really cool to go online and chat with him on the odd occasion when he was checking in on the chat. I cried my eyes out when he died, because I was in NJ visiting family when it happened, and none of my siblings understood the connection for us, while the rest of the family was glued to the TV. watching every development.
Oh yeah, then there's the part of family history in which the real actual Doc (my man) provided the building materials to build the Denver house in Aspen. A tenuous but comfortable link for us.

Marc Cohn "I Hope That I Don't Fall In Love With You"
The title doesn't sound like it, but if you listen to the words, it is great! I found it on the Prince and Me soundtrack. In fact, most of the songs off of that CD make me sigh, but that could be because it just makes me think of the movie and how it made me mad that I didn't have a super cute prince to come and marry me...

i freeze when i hear jeff buckley do that breath thing at the beginning of his rendition of Hallelujah. and basically whenever jarvis cocker sings. i think just breathing noises are sensual.

What about "Flesh and Blood" by Johnny Cash. Oh yeah, "I Still Miss Someone" by the Man in Black as well.
Oh, this thread can go on and on. I tend to use music and lyrics and mile markers in my life.
Is anyone going to be in Reno Monday or Tuesday or Park City on Wednesday? I hate my job, but would love company for dinner any of those days.
