Well I promised to buy ten shares of stock in whoever started this thread, so I guess I will.
That is if the price is reasonable. How much are they?
By the way, up to 49% of the stock in Xavier is going to be available to the public soon. How many shares is reasonable to divide that into? I've never really followed the stock market. Its in the thousands right?
BTW, we should all start with a certain amount of money, say 10,000 dollars?

Good pick, Icky - I just went up 14 1/16 points.
I invest all of my 10,000 and buy 200 shares of Hobbes, for no real reason except that I can buy him at exactly $50.00 a share, making my number of shares nice and round and simplifying my math for the rest of the game.
Diversification is overrated.

Jon Duda sounds better than Diosmel Boy. And come on, Bernard—this merger is almost guaranteed to increase my value.
I'll invest in a few post whores—namely Icarus, Bob_Scopatz, and Pat. They're guaranteed money-makers.

Jon Boy, you sold me. Plus, you seem cheap. I'll take 3*10^7 shares, please.
You know what this reminds me of? The Great Tulip Market Bust, in Holland? about 200-250 years ago? True story, the entire country went nuts for tulips. Prices soared. Everybody had to have tulips. Soon, everybody was "investing" in "tulip futures," buying tulips that hadn't even been planted yet. Fortunes were made and lost, prices went to insane levels ---and then came the inevitable market crash, causing a depression. The Internet Stock Bubble reminded me of it quite a bit.

You know, I suddenly get an uneasy feeling with this. Creative, yes, but still uneasy. It's almost like putting a price on a poster and giving them their worth.

Or should your stock price be your post count divided by your member number? If so, I'll have to go back to aka (post count 5000, member number 130 or so) to get anything out of my IPO.

Oh, please, ak. I thought you were a newbies last line of defense. Now you're defining stock prices to make anybody who registered this year get forced into wage slavery.
Why doesn't everybody have a offer price they pick? If they never get any takers, they drop their price until they do. Of course, some won't have takers at price=0, but I can't help that...
My offer price is $100 per share...no crowding, you'll all get a piece...

Maybe this is all a bad idea. I guess I don't like the idea of assigning monetary values to people (unless it's celebrities on the Hollywood Stock Exchange—celebrities hardly count as people, right?).

I'm buying 100 shares of Thor. His posts have really come around lately, I predict he'll soar in value until he gets banned again,my only risk is knowing exactly when to sell.

Wow. I was avoiding this thread, but it turns out that it bought and sold me. Well, not so much sold, yet...
I think I'll buy some stock in T_Smith, as long as I have unlimited funds. Turnabout is fair play. ^-^

I'm dumping holdings on Jon Boy---2.5x10^7 shares. I use the profits to buy some speculative flish paper, some Avadura because all deviancy should be encouraged.
And I am recommending Celia60 and Belle to hold (because they have the best girl names on the thread), with Rakeesh as my "whiners' to watch" junk bond pick. Morbo

Is there, like, a window of time for this bait-Rakeesh campaign of yours, Morbo? Or will you be sniping at me indefinitely, despite my already not having said a thing against you in days?

I'll cash in on some of the dumped Jon Boy, and some Katharina, hansenj, Olivet, and zgator. If they play mafia again, it's sure to go up, up, up. My broker suggested some T_Smith, so I'll take some of that as well.

I'm buying stock in Jenny Gardener, Olivet, JaneX, Fael, and every other stock classified as "Wench" due to the upcoming release of TTT on DVD and the Return of the King - their stock will soar in value.

I'll buy you Xavier. The question for me is whether my stock is classified as "wench" or not. I'll buy some Theca, CT and dkw to have my medical and spiritual bases covered as well.

BananaOJ I'll go after Alucard because drug stocks always have dividends. To fill out my wench portfolio , I'll take a position in Jenny G., Kayla, Kira and JaneX shares. BananaOJ is my "wench or what?" stockpick because I'm too tired to research if she is or isn't. The popular "whiner's to watch" category has been given up due to whining. Oh, and some Olivet for a local stock. Morbo

So is there any trading in threads? Those have numbers and whatever. And we can actively manipulate them. I'm buying 25,000 shares of Hatrack Stock Exchange at 43 posts. I wish I understood warrants and options and stuff, or I could make some prediction about that. Like I have a right to sell this at 100 posts in 3 days, and if it's more than that I keep the extra. That's what I'll do.

Not sure how to incorporate loss of value, if what I've suggested is "fair". Maybe multiple pages should decrease the value rather than increase it. Also dobies or adversarially referenced threads.
