Get Smart was awesome. And I second the muppets nomination. I've seen a few Buffy and Angel episodes and am curious to see more, but I don't know if I'd buy the whole DVD season just to see what the show is like. Borrow from a friend I suppose. And, of course, Alias. I've never seen an episode but I can't see anything wrong with having Jennifer Garner on my TV screen

Futurama (check!) Simpsons (check!) X-Files seasons 1 through 4 Star Trek TNG, though we've seen most of them on TV lately Star Trek DS9, because it's so similar to TNG and we've hardly seen any of them.
Red Green Show (pbs/Canadian show. Picture Home Improvement gone horribly, horribly wrong)
and
Coupling BBC version. (They cut too much out of the US version)
Add to that
Simpsons Who's Line (both, but British is better) Stargate Star Trek DS9, (cause no one is showing it anywhere) DR Who (don't ask why. Maybe I just want a lot of CD's) Firefly

There were 2 helicopter ones in the 80s. They were Blue Thunder and Airwolf. I remember watching them both but I don't remember what they were like.
As for series I would like to own:
Faulty Towers Cheers The Wonder Years Teddy Ruxpin (One of the best Fantasy Cartoons ever) Star Trek TNG
That's about all I can think of right now.

Guess we're the only ones with Xena: Warrior Princess on DVD . . .
I have the full run of Police Squad but it doesn't fit your rules . . .
I wouldn't mind owning the full run of Picket Fences.
We'd enjoy having the full run of almost any science fiction series, but the expense is prohibitive. Purely for camp value, Battlestar Galactica goes to the top of our list. Incredible Hulk is up there for me as well, but not so much for Cor.
While we hardly watch any broadcast TV, we have actually found with Xena that we enjoy TV shows more on DVD, where we can watch on our own terms rather than schedule our lives around a show, and where we don't find ourselves watching whatever garbage is on because what we want to see doesn't happen to be on. As wasteful as it is in some ways, I think we will probably buy some other tv series.

There was an older show that I thought was cool at the time. It borrowed some plotlines from Knight Rider in that a really cool car was involved. I think the car was called Viper, but it was before the Dodge Viper.
I really liked it though. Maybe it will re-run on the sci-fi channel sometime so I can decide if it would really rank getting the whole series though.

What an intriguing question. I am a television baby, and have seen lots of shows in my time (being older than most of the people around here). For all that, I don't watch television all that much any more, and my list isn't actually that long, and mostly quite recent.
"X-files" (not thrilled with the last season, but I'd take it)
"CSI" (the original, not the Miami thing)
"West Wing"
"Sports Night"
"Crossing Jordan"
"Law and Order: SVU"
"John Doe" (came in right under the wire with exactly one season. I'm still bitter that it ended on that cliffhanger and didn't come back)
Rocky and Bullwinkle and friends (I think this went under more than one title over the years, so basically what I mean here is anything that Rocky and Bullwinkle appeared in and all the features that went with them. I am particulary fond of "Fractured Fairy Tales")
"I Love Lucy" (for my money, the only sit-com that bears repeated viewings)
"Laugh-In" (more for the pop culture references than the show in and of itself - I'm researching a book on baby boomers, and it would be a valuable reference)
Looking back at the list, I find it interesting that as much of a science fiction fan as I am, X-files (and maybe John Doe) are the only sci-fi themed shows on my list that I would want in a full set. I would include "Twilight Zone", except that there are still episodes of the original series that creep me out too much to watch.

You have forgotten something very important to me.
Twin Peaks.
Cmon, how can they release the first season on dvd and never release the second season? What am I supposed to do, sit around and watch up to the big cliffhanger where everyone looks like they are gonna die over and over? How can they not release the end to a two season murder mystery.

Holy cow, Prolixshore, I was just going to say Twin Peaks, but you beat me to it. I also have the first season. I love how they put it together, with the nice picture and sound and the special features. Then they just stopped. I've seen the rest on the crappy VHS version, and it was the most addicting TV I've ever seen. And seeing the final episode was one of the most frightening experiences of my life.
They also need to release the full version of the pilot. I ordered the truncated version from Hong Kong, as it was the only version available. But it is missing the scene with Bob in the hospital basement, and the red room.
Anyway, I also would like some Seinfeld. I already own:
Simpsons Red Dwarf MST3K (about 15-20 episodes) Monty Python Fawlty Towers Black Adder Mister Bean
I would like to pick up Futurama, and I'm sure I'll get the Looney Toons box set pretty soon. I'm also considering Dick Van Dyke. That's all I can think of right now.

G'ahh! I forgot Twin Peaks--one of the best shows in the 90s. I love absurdist, surreal narratives, and Lynch delivers. The music, acting, writing, editing, direction, etc. were all top-drawer and often ground-breaking--from 90s TV only Homicide can go toe-to-toe with Twin Peaks in all those categories, IMHO.
Also forgot CSI (both cities) and West Wing, I've really begun to groove on West Wing now that it's in reruns on Bravo, especially their snappy dialogue.
