quote: Again, Britain was worried about the oil. With German troops so near and the battle of the Soviet Union well under way, the oil in Iran could prove a valuable asset to the war effort. It was thought that Germany was low on oil and would like to get their hands on the Iranian oilfields for use in the thousands of things oil was being used for, including fuel and plastics. Winston Churchill said, “The Iranian oilfields were a prime war factor,” meaning that the invasion of Iran was largely motivated by oil.
Oooo. A paragraph of my ISU, due Friday!!! Panic!!!

Created SR to reinstall Outlook.
Not very exciting. Just a ticket worklog. Our ticketing system has this distressing tendency to delete everything when you try to select something off a menu, so we just always copy the logs before selecting, so that if it deletes we can just paste it back.

Ralphie, actually I didn't pass it to very many people. It's already gone around several times.

quote: At first, it seems that the major themes of the tale match the themes of the Wife’s Prologue. However, the story also honors true love, while the Wife gives it little respect in her Prologue. Additionally, the view of men is much more negative in the Wife’s Tale than in her Prologue; the fictional knight forces a woman to submit to him and therefore deserves death (rather than merely having a nagging wife make his life miserable) unless he learns to understand women and put the knowledge that they desire submissive husbands into practice by becoming one himself.
Some stuff I cut out of a paper I'm writing on the Canterbury Tales.

quote:Endowment Analysis Reports When you are viewing statistics for a council, click the graph icon at the end of the table row for more report options. The resulting window gives these options:
5-Year Trend Analysis The 5-Year Trend Analysis report measures the number or value of endowments (depending on the type selected) for the years indicated (in some cases, it is fewer than five years) at year-end plus this year through the current month. This report can also be selected to measure the same information through the end of each year excluding current year/month. The end-of-year count for each year and the to-date count are pinpointed in the example below.
Council Endowment Comparison The Council Endowment Comparison report compares the number or value of endowments for the selected council with same-size (classification) councils and with councils in the same area. Therefore, it makes comparisons by size and location. The statistics are from December 31 of last year and are averages. Some values are numeric and some are percentages. A sample report follows:
Click the printer icon or the Print link at the top of the report to print the report.

Every time I try to post in this thread, my clipboard is blank. Even when I'm pretty sure it shouldn't be. I think it clears itself everytime I log off.
So, I've been doing the lit crit thing this morning, so there should be something there now.

Oh, yeah! The writer of that piece has a Ph.D in English, so her grammar and punctuation is almost always flawless. She does sometimes cram a bit much info into her sentences, though not very often. I'm always pleased and surprised when I find even a little something where I can suggest something to improve her work. She's really great.

quote:If you're following the news, you know that the major religions differ in their interpretation of the holy books. For example, one way to interpret God's will is that you should love your neighbor. An alternate reading of the holy books might lead you to rig a donkey cart with small mortar rockets and aim it at a hotel full of infidels. In summary, po-tay-to, poh-tah-to. Religions are very flexible, and that's a loophole that the DNRC should exploit, especially during the holiday season.
Imagine, if you will, that all DNRC members moved their holiday gift-buying from December to January to take advantage of the sales. Then imagine that the money saved on gifts is invested at 5% compounded interest for 80 years. You'll be dead by then, but your estates would be worth literally hundreds of dollars, maybe more. Anyway, the point is that it's easier to park at the mall in January, and that's something that Jesus, Mohammed and Buddha would all agree is a good thing. Especially Buddha, if you know what I mean.
