No, it's not. But it is worth driving 55 on back roads when it's more direct. My commute takes 5-10 minutes longer than before[1], but it's a shorter and more interesting route. And I get better milage even with the traffic lights.
[1] Except when there's traffic. Then it's much better than the highway.

I drive a Hyundai Santa Fe, which I think is now being replaced by a newer model called the Tucson, which is not that much more money.
Best car ever.
I used to drive: a 1990 Buick Reatta (also known as the rolling piece of ...) The reason I will never buy GM again... a 1976 Mercury Bobcat (Purhcased new for $3500, sold in 2002 for $500) great car. a 1970 Datsun 1600 Roadster -- a weird copy of an MG. fun car. Weird though. a 1971 Simca 1204 -- Something French. Very French. a 1970 Maverick. 302 engine. Ha, eat dust! and, my first love (sorry Dana) a 1968 Buick Le Sabre that got 8 miles to the gallon and ran really really hot. But it was my first car so I loved it.
