According to my 3 year old. I let her have a sip of some not so hot chocolate and she said, "hot chocolate made me all better." It must work very well because she wasn't even sick to begin with.

KQ makes the BEST hot chocolate in the GALAXY from scratch, it makes me all better. Although she thinks it is crazy that I like to be outside in the cold while drinking it. Am I the only one that does this?

This morning I just had hot chocolate for the first time in probably about a year. Weird. I'd probably like drinking it when it's cold outside. Unfortunately, that doesn't happen that often in Florida.

Hot chocolate is magic! And you can put whipped cream on it (which is a secondary magic substance).

I really do make wonderful hot cocoa. I'm not saying that to brag, it's just a plain and simple fact. And I don't allow marshmallows anywhere NEAR it; it MUST be topped with whipped cream.

Mmmm . . . Hot chocolate . . . and cider . . . and coffee . . .
I haven't had the chance for it as much anymore since I moved south. No cold winter nights getting home and brewing up homemade hot chocolate, and it's not worth it if it's instant.

Mind you, now that I think of it, I don't think I've made my own hot chocolate in ages. Usually I just get one at Tim Horton's these days, whenever everyone else is getting a coffee.

Well, no. You mix it before you heat it. At least, I think. It's been a while. And I don't think it's eeew.
Then again, I'm one of those infuriating people who think that McDonald's hamburgers is comfort food...

I have swiss miss, about 3 boxes sent by loving relatives in college care packages. I like the kind with the marshmallows in the packet, but they usually melt before it cools enough to start drinking it, but they leave a nice froth on top. I also like the kind you get at starbucks, not sure how they do it, but it tastes more like real cocoa powder. Did anyone else ever used to just eat the cocoa powder? My brothers and I always used to.

I use ghirardelli cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon, and milk. I warm it all up on the stove slowly. Then I put it unto cups with whipped cream and cinnamon. I have found the perfect cocoa to sugar ratio.

I've never had made from scratch hot chocolate. I really wish I could try it. No one I know knows how to make it from scratch, though.

Jaime, if you swear on all your favorite relatives' graves that you will only make ONE hard copy for yourself (and/or print the e-mail) and promise to only pass the recipe on by word of mouth or by hand-copying the recipe, and make all you give it to do the same, I will send you my instructions for the best hot cocoa ever.

Boon, I made this offer because Jaime has never had real hot chocolate. I will of course extend the offer to any fairly established Hatracker who cares to e-mail me for it and is willing to make the same promise (I already extended the offer to Nauvoo when asked to as a test of friendship.) And you are welcome to it.
ketchupqueen AT sbcglobal.net, please, it's saved in a folder there, I don't have it at the listed e-mail.

Ummm, ok. I won't share the email with anyone besides my mom since she'll probably be the one who will help me make it. Thank you.

And I'll probably lose it after making it a couple times anyways so you don't have too worry much.

When I was little, my mom used to make homemade hot chocolate with warmed milk and Mexican chocolate. She would chop it up and slowly melt it into the milk and then add sugar. Now they have instant packs. Yay!!!! Well, not yay, cause it isn't the same, but it is darn close. Just add whipped cream.

Dunkin Donuts' hot chocolate is pretty darned good itself.
And hot chocolate with a shot of peppermint schnapps in it is a lovely way to top off a winter evening.

We've found that Honeyville Hot Cocoa is a really good brand. It's sort of hard to find though. I think we still have some and it's probably 2 years old.
MMM hot cocoa would be wonderful.. (sigh) too bad I'm not home to make it.
Edit: moved the sigh

*drools at the thought of the best hot chocolate in the world*
KQ- I'm not sure if I'm established enough on Hatrack (I've been in and out as of late) for you to feel comfortable sending me your recipe, but I would absolutely love to try it. I'm a diehard chocoholic, and Hot Chocolate Season is just beginning here in Provo. I usually use some form of mix, and I've only tried making it from scratch once with unfortunate results. I would gladly agree to your stipulations. If it truly is the best hot chocolate in the world, you deserve the credit. Anyway, if you're ok with sending me the recipe, I'll email you.
