It's a shame to see this happen to Russia so soon after the end of the Soviet Union, although it is certainly no huge surprise given the way things have been headed in Russia the past couple of years. Still, I'm glad to see that people are (at the moment) only vanishing from TV. When I saw the article title my mind immediately went to another meaning of phrase "made to vanish".

Unfortunately this doesn't surprise me. And it will probably get worse before it gets better. The international human rights or freedom of press associations won't be able to do much to change things; the change needs to come from within Russia.
